English - Chapter 26 - Ash-Shuara

Translation by Ali Unal — Permalink

Verse 1 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:1

Verse 2 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:2

These are the Revelations of the Book clear in itself and clearly showing the truth

Verse 3 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:3

It may be that you (O Messenger) will torment yourself to death because they refuse to believe

Verse 4 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:4

If We will, We can send down a (compelling) sign on them from heaven, so that they are forced to bow their necks before it (in humility)

Verse 5 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:5

Whenever a new Revelation comes to them from the All-Merciful (to warn and enlighten them), they but turn away from it in aversion

Verse 6 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:6

So they have obstinately denied (this Message). But soon they will come to understand what it was that they were mocking

Verse 7 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:7

Have they not considered the earth, how many of every noble kind We have caused to grow therein in pairs

Verse 8 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:8

Surely in this there is a sign, but most of them are not believers

Verse 9 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:9

And surely your Lord is indeed the All-Glorious with irresistible might (able to punish whoever goes against His Glory), the All-Compassionate (especially towards His believing servants)

Verse 10 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:10

(Remember) when your Lord called Moses, saying: "Go to the wrongdoing people

Verse 11 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:11

The people of the Pharaoh. Will they not give up their way in fear of Me and take the way of piety

Verse 12 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:12

Moses replied: "My Lord! I fear that they will deny me

Verse 13 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:13

And my breast will be constricted (so that I fail to show the necessary perseverance and tolerance), and my tongue will not be free (to convey Your Message with the right fluency), so appoint Aaron as a Messenger beside me

Verse 14 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:14

They also have a charge of crime against me, so I fear that they will kill me (and not let me convey Your Message)

Verse 15 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:15

(God) said: "Not so, indeed! Go forth, then, the two of you, with Our miraculous signs (with which I have provided you). We will surely be with you all (you and them), listening attentively (to all that is to happen between you)

Verse 16 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:16

So go, both of you, to the Pharaoh and say: ‘We have come with a message from the Lord of the worlds (He Who has created and sustains everything)

Verse 17 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:17

‘Let the Children of Israel go with us!’

Verse 18 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:18

(When Moses delivered his message, the Pharaoh) said: "Did we not bring you up among us (in our palace) when you were a child? And you spent many years of your life among us

Verse 19 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:19

Then you committed that heinous deed of yours which you did, (proving thereby that) you are indeed one of the ungrateful

Verse 20 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:20

(Moses) said: "I committed that deed unintentionally when I did not know (it would end in the way it did)

Verse 21 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:21

Then I fled from you when I feared (living together with) you (any longer), but (since then) my Lord has granted to me sound, wise judgment, and has made me one of His Messengers

Verse 22 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:22

As for that favor you taunt me with: (it is owed to the fact) that you have enslaved the Children of Israel

Verse 23 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:23

(The Pharaoh) said: "What (and who) is that, ‘the Lord of the worlds’

Verse 24 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:24

(Moses) answered: "The Lord (Creator, Sustainer, and sole Ruler) of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you would but (let yourselves be) convinced

Verse 25 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:25

(The Pharaoh) said to those around him: "Do you not hear (what he is saying)

Verse 26 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:26

(Moses) continued: "Your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers

Verse 27 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:27

(The Pharaoh) exclaimed: "See! This Messenger of yours who has been sent to you is assuredly a madman

Verse 28 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:28

(Moses) went on: "He is the Lord of the east and the west and all that is between them, if you would but reason and understand

Verse 29 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:29

(The Pharaoh) threatened: "If you, (O Moses,) take any deity other than me (to worship, to offer your prayer and sacrifices to, and to seek help from), I will most certainly make you one of those imprisoned

Verse 30 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:30

(Moses) said: "Even if I have brought you something clear (which demonstrates that I am speaking the truth)

Verse 31 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:31

(The Pharaoh) answered: "Then, produce it if you are truthful (in your claim)

Verse 32 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:32

Thereupon Moses threw down his staff, and it was manifestly a serpent

Verse 33 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:33

And he drew forth his (right) hand (from his armpit where he had put it), and thereupon it was shining white to those looking on

Verse 34 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:34

(The Pharaoh) said to the chiefs around him: "This is indeed a learned, skillful sorcerer

Verse 35 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:35

Who seeks to drive you out from your land by his sorcery. What, then, do you advise (me to do)

Verse 36 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:36

They said: "Put him and his brother off for a while, and (in the meantime) send forth heralds to all cities

Verse 37 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:37

To bring to your presence every learned, skillful sorcerer

Verse 38 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:38

So the sorcerers were assembled (to contend with Moses) at the appointed time on a day (made) well-known (to all)

Verse 39 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:39

And it was said to the people: "Will you not assemble (and attend also)

Verse 40 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:40

We are expecting that the sorcerers will triumph and we will follow them (in their religion)

Verse 41 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:41

So then the sorcerers came forth (for the encounter) and said to the Pharaoh: "We shall surely have a reward, if we are the victors, shall we

Verse 42 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:42

(The Pharaoh) answered: "Yes, indeed. And you will then be among those near-stationed to me

Verse 43 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:43

Moses said to them (the sorcerers): "Throw whatever you are going to throw

Verse 44 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:44

So they threw their ropes and staffs, saying: "By the might and glory of Pharaoh, we will surely be the victors

Verse 45 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:45

Thereafter, Moses threw his staff, and behold, it swallowed up their false devices

Verse 46 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:46

The sorcerers threw themselves down, prostrating

Verse 47 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:47

And they said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of the worlds

Verse 48 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:48

The Lord of Moses and Aaron

Verse 49 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:49

(The Pharaoh) said: "What! Do you believe in Him before I give you permission? For sure he is your chief who has taught you sorcery. But in time you will certainly come to know. I will most certainly have your hands and feet cut off alternately, and then I will most certainly have you crucified all together

Verse 50 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:50

They responded: "There is no hurt (in what you threaten us with). For surely to our (true and everlasting) Lord we are bound to return

Verse 51 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:51

We ardently desire that our Lord will forgive us our sins for we are the first to believe

Verse 52 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:52

(Events developed to the point that) We revealed to Moses: "Set forth with My servants by night: surely, you will be pursued

Verse 53 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:53

Then the Pharaoh sent heralds to the cities (to mobilize his troops)

Verse 54 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:54

(Saying:) "Those people are indeed a paltry band

Verse 55 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:55

And (forgetting their lack in numbers and power), they have offended against us (and so provoked our wrath)

Verse 56 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:56

As for us, we are assuredly a numerous host, ever on guard

Verse 57 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:57

Thus did We drive them out of (all that they had enjoyed of) gardens and springs

Verse 58 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:58

And treasures, excellent dwellings, and noble status

Verse 59 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:59

Things happened thus, and We made the Children of Israel survive them and inherit (the same kind of bounties)

Verse 60 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:60

At sunrise, the Pharaoh set off in pursuit of them. tyrant tyrannical

Verse 61 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:61

When the two hosts came in view of each other, the companions of Moses said: "We are certainly overtaken

Verse 62 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:62

He replied: "Certainly not. My Lord is surely with me; He will guide me (to deliverance)

Verse 63 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:63

We revealed to Moses: "Strike the sea with your staff." Thereupon the sea split, and each part became like a towering mountain

Verse 64 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:64

We brought the others (the Pharaoh and his host) close to the same spot

Verse 65 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:65

And We saved Moses and all those who were with him

Verse 66 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:66

Afterwards, We caused the others to drown

Verse 67 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:67

Surely in that (which took place between Moses and Pharaoh) there is a sign (a great, important lesson). Most of them (the Pharaoh’s people) were not believers

Verse 68 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:68

And surely your Lord is indeed the All-Glorious with irresistible might (able to punish whoever goes against His Glory), the All-Compassionate (especially towards His believing servants)

Verse 69 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:69

Now recite to them this exemplary history of Abraham

Verse 70 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:70

When he said to his father and his people: "What is it that you worship

Verse 71 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:71

They said: "We worship idols; and (even though they are made of wood and stone) we are ever devoted to them (as they are our deities)

Verse 72 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:72

(Abraham) said: "Do they hear you when you invoke them

Verse 73 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:73

Or do they benefit you (when you worship them) or harm (you when you do not)

Verse 74 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:74

They replied: "But we found our forefathers doing the same

Verse 75 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:75

(Abraham) said: "So, have you considered what you have been worshipping

Verse 76 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:76

You and all your forefathers that have passed (before you)

Verse 77 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:77

I see that they (all that you worship) are enemies to me, but the Lord of the worlds is not

Verse 78 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:78

He Who has created me and so guides me (to whatever is to my benefit in both this world and the next)

Verse 79 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:79

And He it is Who gives me food and drink

Verse 80 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:80

And Who, when I fall ill, heals me

Verse 81 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:81

And Who will make me die and then will give me life again

Verse 82 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:82

And Who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day

Verse 83 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:83

My Lord! Grant me true, wise judgment, and join me with the righteous

Verse 84 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:84

And grant me a most true and virtuous renown among posterity

Verse 85 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:85

And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of bounty and blessing

Verse 86 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:86

And forgive my father, for he is among those who have gone astray

Verse 87 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:87

And do not disgrace me on the Day when all people will be raised up to life

Verse 88 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:88

The Day when neither wealth will be of any use, nor offspring

Verse 89 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:89

But only he (will prosper) who comes before God with a sound heart (free of all kinds of unbelief, hypocrisy, and associating partners with God)

Verse 90 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:90

And Paradise (on that Day) will be brought near for the God-revering, pious

Verse 91 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:91

And the Blazing Flame will be laid open before those who rebelled (against God) and went astray

Verse 92 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:92

They will be asked: "Where are all those (idols or revered human beings, or angels, or jinn) that you used to worship

Verse 93 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:93

Apart from God? Can they be of any help to you, or even to themselves

Verse 94 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:94

Then they will be hurled into the Flame headlong, one upon another – they (the idols), and the rebellious (who worship them)

Verse 95 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:95

And so too the hosts of Iblis, all together

Verse 96 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:96

Blaming one another therein, they (the rebellious) will say (to the others)

Verse 97 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:97

By God, assuredly, we were lost in obvious error

Verse 98 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:98

When we held you as equals (in worship and obedience) to the Lord of the worlds

Verse 99 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:99

It is none but the criminals (the leaders in associating partners with God) who led us astray

Verse 100 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:100

And now we have none to intercede (on our behalf)

Verse 101 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:101

Nor any intimate friend

Verse 102 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:102

If only we had a second chance (in the world), so that we might be among the believers

Verse 103 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:103

Surely in that (which took place between Abraham and his people) there is a sign (a great, important lesson). Most of them were not believers

Verse 104 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:104

And surely your Lord is indeed the All-Glorious with irresistible might (able to punish whoever goes against His Glory), the All-Compassionate (especially towards His believing servants)

Verse 105 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:105

The people of Noah denied (Noah and thereby meant to deny all) the Messengers

Verse 106 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:106

(Recall) when their brother Noah said to them (by way of timely warning): "Will you not keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and seek refuge with His protection

Verse 107 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:107

Surely I am a Messenger to you, trustworthy

Verse 108 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:108

So keep form disobedience to God in reverence for Him, and obey me

Verse 109 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:109

I ask of you no wage for that (for conveying God’s Message); my wage is due only from the Lord of the worlds

Verse 110 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:110

So keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him, and obey me

Verse 111 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:111

They responded: "Shall we believe in you, when the lowliest (among the people) follow you

Verse 112 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:112

(Noah) said: "What knowledge could I have about what they were engaged in doing (before they became believers)

Verse 113 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:113

Indeed their reckoning rests with none but my Lord; if only you could understand

Verse 114 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:114

And it is not expected of me that I should repel the believers

Verse 115 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:115

I am but a plain warner (responsible for no other duty than the duty to warn)

Verse 116 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:116

They said: "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will certainly be stoned to death in utter abjection

Verse 117 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:117

(After ages of struggle) he said (in supplication): "My Lord! Indeed, my people have denied me

Verse 118 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:118

So judge between me and them a conclusive (and everlasting) separation, and save me and the believers in my company

Verse 119 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:119

So We saved him and those who were with him in the laden Ark

Verse 120 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:120

And then, following their rescue, We caused the rest to drown

Verse 121 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:121

Surely in that (which took place between Noah and his people) there is a sign (a great, important lesson). Most of them were not believers

Verse 122 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:122

And surely your Lord is indeed the All-Glorious with irresistible might (able to punish whoever goes against His Glory), the All-Compassionate (especially towards His believing servants)

Verse 123 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:123

The ‘Ad denied (Hud and thereby meant to deny all) the Messengers

Verse 124 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:124

(Recall) when their brother Hud said to them (by way of timely warning): "Will you not keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and seek refuge with His protection

Verse 125 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:125

Surely I am a Messenger to you, trustworthy

Verse 126 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:126

So keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and obey me

Verse 127 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:127

I ask of you no wage for that (for conveying God’s Message); my wage is only due from the Lord of the worlds

Verse 128 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:128

Will you continue to build on every high spot monumental buildings for fun and show

Verse 129 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:129

And make for yourselves great castles (as if) hoping that you might live for ever

Verse 130 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:130

And when you strike and seize (others and their goods), strike and seize in the style of tyrants

Verse 131 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:131

So keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and obey me

Verse 132 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:132

Keep from disobedience to Him Who has amply provided you with (all that) you are well-aware of

Verse 133 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:133

Amply provided you with flocks and herds and children

Verse 134 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:134

And gardens and springs

Verse 135 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:135

Indeed I fear for you the punishment of an awesome Day

Verse 136 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:136

They responded: "It is all the same to us whether you preach or are not of those who preach

Verse 137 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:137

This (what we do) is the pattern of conduct of (all our) predecessors

Verse 138 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:138

And (so) we are not going to be subject to any punishment

Verse 139 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:139

So they denied him and, in consequence, We destroyed them. Surely in that (which took place between Hud and his people) there is a sign (a great, important lesson). Most of them were not believers

Verse 140 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:140

And surely your Lord is indeed the All-Glorious with irresistible might (able to punish whoever goes against His Glory), the All-Compassionate (especially towards His believing servants)

Verse 141 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:141

The Thamud denied (Salih and thereby meant to deny all) the Messengers

Verse 142 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:142

(Recall) when their brother Salih said to them (by way of timely warning): "Will you not keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and seek refuge with His protection

Verse 143 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:143

I am indeed a Messenger to you, trustworthy

Verse 144 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:144

So keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and obey me

Verse 145 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:145

I ask of you no wage for that (for conveying God’s Message); my wage is only due from the Lord of the worlds

Verse 146 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:146

(Do you think) you will be left secure forever in what is here before us

Verse 147 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:147

Amidst gardens and springs

Verse 148 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:148

Cornfields and date-palms with heavy bunches (of dates)

Verse 149 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:149

And that you will (continue to) skillfully hew dwellings out of mountains

Verse 150 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:150

So keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and obey me

Verse 151 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:151

And do not follow the commands of those who are wasteful (of God-given faculties) and commit excesses

Verse 152 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:152

Those who cause disorder and corruption on the earth, without setting things right

Verse 153 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:153

They responded: "You are only one of those who are bewitched

Verse 154 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:154

You are but a mortal like us, so produce a sign if you are truthful (in your claim of Messengership)

Verse 155 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:155

(Salih) said: "This is a she-camel, one day is for her to drink and one day is for you to get water

Verse 156 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:156

Do not touch her with evil lest the punishment of an awesome Day should seize you

Verse 157 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:157

But (after a time, being unable to put up with it any longer,) they cruelly slaughtered her, and then became regretful

Verse 158 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:158

For the (shocking) punishment seized them. Surely in that (which took place between Salih and his people) there is a sign (a great, important lesson). Most of them were not believers

Verse 159 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:159

And surely your Lord is indeed the All-Glorious with irresistible might (able to punish whoever goes against His Glory), the All-Compassionate (especially towards His believing servants)

Verse 160 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:160

The people of Lot denied (Lot and thereby meant to deny all) the Messengers

Verse 161 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:161

(Recall) when their brother Lot said to them (by way of timely warning): "Will you not keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and seek refuge with His protection

Verse 162 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:162

I am indeed a Messenger to you, trustworthy

Verse 163 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:163

So keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and obey me

Verse 164 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:164

I ask of you no wage for that (for conveying God’s Message); my wage is only due from the Lord of the worlds

Verse 165 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:165

What! Do you, of all the world’s people, approach men (with lust)

Verse 166 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:166

And leave aside what your Lord has created (and made lawful) for you in your wives? No, indeed! you are a people exceeding all bounds (of decency)

Verse 167 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:167

They responded: "If you do not desist, you will most certainly be cast out (from our land)

Verse 168 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:168

(Lot) said: "I am indeed one who abhors your practice

Verse 169 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:169

(And he prayed:) "My Lord! Save me and my family from (the consequences of) what they have been doing

Verse 170 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:170

So We saved him and his family, all of them

Verse 171 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:171

Except an old woman, who was among those who stayed behind (and were destroyed)

Verse 172 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:172

Then We annihilated the others

Verse 173 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:173

We poured upon them a (destructive) rain (of stones). How evil was the rain of those who had been warned

Verse 174 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:174

Surely in that (which took place between Lot and his people) there is a sign (a great, important lesson). Most of them were not believers

Verse 175 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:175

And surely your Lord is indeed the All-Glorious with irresistible might (able to punish whoever goes against His Glory), the All-Compassionate (especially towards His believing servants)

Verse 176 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:176

The dwellers of al-Aykah denied (Shu‘ayb and thereby meant to deny all) the Messengers

Verse 177 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:177

(Recall) when Shu‘ayb said to them (by way of timely warning): "Will you not keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and seek refuge with His protection

Verse 178 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:178

I am indeed a Messenger to you, trustworthy

Verse 179 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:179

So keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and obey me

Verse 180 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:180

I ask of you no wage for that (for conveying God’s Message); my wage is only due from the Lord of the worlds

Verse 181 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:181

Give full measure (in all your dealings) and be not one of those who (by cheating and giving less) cause loss to others

Verse 182 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:182

And weigh with the straighta true, accurate balance

Verse 183 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:183

Do not wrong people by depriving them of what is rightfully theirs, and do not go about acting wickedly in the land, causing disorder and corruption

Verse 184 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:184

Keep from disobedience to Him in reverence for Him Who has created you and all the earlier generations

Verse 185 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:185

They responded: "You are only one of those who are bewitched

Verse 186 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:186

You are but a mortal like us, and we have become convinced that you are certainly one of the liars

Verse 187 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:187

So cause lumps from the sky to fall down upon us, if you are truthful in your claim (of Messengership)

Verse 188 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:188

(Shu‘ayb) said: "My Lord knows well all that you do." (Thus he referred their matter to God)

Verse 189 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:189

So they denied him and in consequence, the punishment of the Day of the Overshadowing seized them. It surely was the punishment of an awesome day

Verse 190 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:190

Surely in that (which took place between Shu‘ayb and his people) there is a sign (a great, important lesson). Most of them were not believers

Verse 191 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:191

And surely your Lord is indeed the All-Glorious with irresistible might (able to punish whoever goes against His Glory), the All-Compassionate (especially towards His believing servants)

Verse 192 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:192

This (Qur’an) is indeed the Book of the Lord of the worlds being sent down by Him (in parts)

Verse 193 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:193

The Trustworthy Spirit brings it down

Verse 194 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:194

On your heart, so that you may be one of the warners (entrusted with the Divine Revelation)

Verse 195 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:195

In clear Arabic tongue

Verse 196 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:196

It has certainly been (prefigured) in the previous Scriptures

Verse 197 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:197

Is it not an evidence enough for them that the scholars of the Children of Israel know it (to be so)

Verse 198 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:198

But even if We had sent it down on any of the non-Arabs

Verse 199 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:199

And he had recited it to them, they would still not have believed in it

Verse 200 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:200

Thus (because of their willful persistence in unbelief and injustices) have We caused it (the Qur’an) to pass unheeded through the hearts of the disbelieving criminals

Verse 201 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:201

(Despite irrefutable proofs of its truth,) they will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment

Verse 202 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:202

So it will come on them all of a sudden, when they are unaware (and incapable of awareness) of its coming

Verse 203 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:203

Then they say: "Are we to be granted some respite (so that we might reform ourselves)

Verse 204 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:204

(This being so,) do they still wish for Our punishment to be hastened

Verse 205 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:205

Have you considered that, if We let them enjoy life for many (more) years (– something they will desperately wish for when they face the punishment)

Verse 206 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:206

And the punishment they were promised comes upon them after that

Verse 207 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:207

It will be of no avail to them at all (that their lives of enjoyment were prolonged)

Verse 208 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:208

We have never destroyed any township except that it had warners (sent to it)

Verse 209 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:209

To remind and admonish them. We have never been unjust

Verse 210 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:210

It is not the satans who have brought down this (Book)

Verse 211 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:211

It is neither (permitted nor proper) for them, nor is it within their power (to do that)

Verse 212 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:212

Indeed they are utterly debarred even from hearing it (during its Revelation)

Verse 213 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:213

Hence, never take to you any other deity to invoke besides God, lest you should become of those condemned to the punishment

Verse 214 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:214

And (O Messenger) warn your nearest kinsfolk

Verse 215 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:215

Spread your wings (to provide care and shelter) over the believers who follow you (in practicing God’s commandments in their lives)

Verse 216 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:216

But if they disobey you (your kinsfolk by refusing your call, or those who have newly believed by not giving up their former way of life), then say (to them): "I am free of (responsibility for) what you do

Verse 217 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:217

And (taking no account of any earthly power in performing your mission) put your trust in the All-Glorious with irresistible might (able to do whatever He wills), the All-Compassionate (especially towards His believing servants)

Verse 218 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:218

He Who sees you when you rise (in the Prayer, and in readiness to carry out Our commands)

Verse 219 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:219

As well as your strenuous efforts in prostration among those who prostrate (to be able to fulfill your duty of servanthood and help the believer to reform their lives)

Verse 220 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:220

Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing

Verse 221 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:221

(O people!) Shall I inform you upon whom the satans descend

Verse 222 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:222

They descend upon everyone addicted to inventing falsehoods, addicted to sinning

Verse 223 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:223

They (the satans) give ear eagerly (to the conversations of the angels, and whisper to every forger lost in sin as if they received something), but they (both the satans and their sinful agents) are liars in most of their words

Verse 224 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:224

As for poets, only the misguided follow them

Verse 225 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:225

Do you not see that they roam confusedly through all the valleys (of falsehoods, thoughts, and currents)

Verse 226 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:226

And they say what they themselves do not do

Verse 227 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:227

Except those who believe and do good, righteous deeds, and remember God much, and vindicate themselves when they have been wronged. The wrongdoers will come to know by what a (great) reverse they will be overturned
