English - Chapter 26 - Ash-Shuara
Translation by Dr Laleh Bakhtiar — Permalink
Verse 1 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:1
Verse 2 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:2
That are the signs of the clear Book
Verse 3 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:3
Perhaps thou wouldst be one who consumes thyself in grief because they become not ones who believe
Verse 4 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:4
If We will, We send down to them from heaven a sign so that perhaps their necks would stay to it, ones that are bent in humility
Verse 5 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:5
And there approaches them not any renewed Remembrance from The Merciful but that they had been ones who turn aside from it
Verse 6 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:6
Surely, they denied it. So soon the tiding will approach them about what they had been ridiculing
Verse 7 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:7
Consider they the earth, how much We caused to develop in and on it of every generous pair
Verse 8 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:8
Truly, in that is a sign. Yet most of them had not been ones who believe
Verse 9 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:9
Truly, thy Lord, He is, certainly, The Almighty, The Compassionate
Verse 10 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:10
And when thy Lord proclaimed to Moses saying that: Approach the unjust folk
Verse 11 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:11
a folk of Pharaoh saying: Will they not be Godfearing
Verse 12 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:12
He said: My Lord! Truly, I fear that they will deny me
Verse 13 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:13
and my breast be narrowed and my tongue will not be loosened. So send for Aaron
Verse 14 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:14
And they charge an impiety against me. I fear that they will kill me
Verse 15 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:15
He said: No indeed! Both of you go with Our signs. Truly, We will be with you, ones who are listening
Verse 16 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:16
And both of you approach Pharaoh and say: We are the Messengers of the Lord of the worlds
Verse 17 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:17
so send the Children of Israel with us
Verse 18 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:18
Pharaoh said: Raise not we thee up among us as a child? Hadst thou not lingered in expectation with us for many years of thy lifetime
Verse 19 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:19
And thou hadst accomplished thy accomplishment that thou hadst accomplished and thou art among the ones who are ungrateful
Verse 20 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:20
Moses said: I accomplished it when I was of the ones who go astray
Verse 21 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:21
So I ran away from you when I feared you. Then, my Lord bestowed on me critical judgment and made me among the ones who are sent
Verse 22 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:22
Beyond this past favor with which thou hast reproached me, thou hadst enslaved the Children of Israel
Verse 23 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:23
Pharaoh said: And what is the Lord of the worlds
Verse 24 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:24
Moses said: The Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between the two of them if you had been ones who are certain
Verse 25 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:25
Pharaoh said to whoever was around him: Listen you not
Verse 26 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:26
Moses said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancient ones
Verse 27 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:27
Pharaoh said: Truly, your Messenger who was sent to you is one who is possessed
Verse 28 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:28
Moses said: The Lord of the East and the West and whatever is between the two of them if you had been reasonable
Verse 29 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:29
Pharaoh said: If thou hadst taken to thyself a god other than me. I will, certainly, assign thee to be imprisoned
Verse 30 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:30
Moses said: What if I drew near thee with something that makes it clear
Verse 31 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:31
Pharaoh said: Bring it, if thou hast been among the ones who are sincere
Verse 32 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:32
So he cast his staff; that is when it was a clear serpent
Verse 33 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:33
And he drew out his hand and that is when it was shimmering white to the ones who look
Verse 34 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:34
He said to the Council around him: Truly, this is one who is a knowing sorcerer
Verse 35 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:35
He wants to drive you out from your region by his sorcery. What is it, then, that you suggest
Verse 36 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:36
They said: Put him and his brother off and raise up ones who summon in the cities
Verse 37 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:37
They will bring every knowing witch to thee
Verse 38 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:38
So the ones who were sorcerers were gathered at a time appointed on a known day
Verse 39 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:39
and it was said to humanity: Will you, you be ones who gather together
Verse 40 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:40
so that perhaps we follow the ones who are sorcerers if they had been the ones who are victors
Verse 41 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:41
So when the ones who are sorcerers drew near, they said to Pharaoh: Is there a compensation for us if we had been the ones who are victors
Verse 42 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:42
Pharaoh said: Yes! Truly, you will be the ones who are brought near to me
Verse 43 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:43
Moses said to them: Cast what you will as ones who cast
Verse 44 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:44
So they cast their ropes and their staffs and said: By the vainglory of Pharaoh, we, we will, surely, be the ones who are victors
Verse 45 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:45
Then, Moses cast down his staff. That is when it swallows what they faked
Verse 46 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:46
The ones who are sorcerers were cast down, ones who prostrate themselves
Verse 47 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:47
They said: We believed in the Lord of the worlds
Verse 48 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:48
the Lord of Moses and Aaron
Verse 49 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:49
Pharaoh said: You believed in him before I give permission to you? He is, truly, your foremost master who taught you sorcery. Then, you will know. I will, certainly, cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will cause you to be crucified one and all
Verse 50 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:50
They said: No grievance. Truly, to our Lord we are ones who are turning
Verse 51 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:51
Truly, we are desirous that Our Lord forgive us our transgressions that we had been the first of the ones who believe
Verse 52 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:52
And We revealed to Moses saying that: Set thou forth by night with My servants. Truly, you are ones who will be followed
Verse 53 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:53
Then, Pharaoh sent to the cities, ones who summon
Verse 54 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:54
They said: These are, truly, a small crowd
Verse 55 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:55
and, truly, they are ones who enrage us
Verse 56 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:56
We are altogether, truly, ones who are cautious
Verse 57 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:57
So We drove them out from the gardens and springs
Verse 58 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:58
and treasures and a generous station
Verse 59 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:59
And We, thus, gave them as inheritance to the Children of Israel
Verse 60 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:60
So they pursued them at sunrise
Verse 61 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:61
Then, when the two multitudes sighted each other, the Companions of Moses said: Truly, we are ones who are to be overtaken
Verse 62 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:62
Moses said: No indeed. Truly, my Lord is with me and He will guide me
Verse 63 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:63
Then, We revealed to Moses saying that: Strike the sea with thy staff and it divided and each had been a separate part like a high, tremendous mountain
Verse 64 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:64
And, again, We brought the others close
Verse 65 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:65
and We rescued Moses and whoever was with him, one and all
Verse 66 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:66
Again, We drowned the others
Verse 67 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:67
Truly, in this is a sign and yet most of them had not been ones who believe
Verse 68 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:68
And, truly, thy Lord, He is The Almighty, The Compassionate
Verse 69 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:69
And recount to them the tidings of Abraham
Verse 70 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:70
when he said to his father and his folk: What is it you worship
Verse 71 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:71
They said: We worship idols. We will stay ones who give ourselves up to them
Verse 72 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:72
He said: Hear they when you call them
Verse 73 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:73
Or are they profiting you or hurting you
Verse 74 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:74
They said: Nay! But we found our fathers acting likewise
Verse 75 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:75
He said: Then, considered what you had been worshipping
Verse 76 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:76
you and your fathers, the elders
Verse 77 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:77
Truly, they are an enemy to me, but not so the Lord of the worlds
Verse 78 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:78
Who created me. And it is He Who guides me
Verse 79 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:79
And that He Who feeds me and gives me drink
Verse 80 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:80
And when I was sick, it is He Who heals me
Verse 81 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:81
and Who causes me to die, again, will give me life
Verse 82 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:82
and from Whom I am desirous that He will forgive me my transgressions on the Day of Judgment
Verse 83 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:83
My Lord! Bestow on me critical judgment and cause me to join with the ones in accord with morality
Verse 84 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:84
And assign me a good name of good repute with the later ones
Verse 85 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:85
and make me one who inherits the Garden of Bliss
Verse 86 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:86
And forgive my father. Truly, he had been among the ones who go astray
Verse 87 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:87
And cover me not with shame on a Day they will be raised up
Verse 88 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:88
on a Day neither wealth will profit nor children
Verse 89 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:89
but he who approached God with a pure-hearted heart
Verse 90 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:90
And the Garden will be brought close for the ones who are Godfearing
Verse 91 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:91
and hellfire will be advanced for the ones who are in error
Verse 92 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:92
And it will be said to them: Where is what you had been worshipping
Verse 93 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:93
instead of God? Are you helped by them? Or help they themselves
Verse 94 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:94
Then, they were thrown down into it, they and the ones who are in error
Verse 95 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:95
and the army of Iblis, one and all
Verse 96 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:96
And they said while they are in it striving against one another
Verse 97 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:97
By God! Truly, we had been clearly wandering astray
Verse 98 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:98
when we made you equal with the Lord of the worlds
Verse 99 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:99
And no one caused us to go astray but the ones who sin
Verse 100 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:100
Now we have not ones who are intercessors
Verse 101 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:101
nor an ardent friend, a loyal friend
Verse 102 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:102
Would that there were for us a return again. Then, we would be among the ones who believe
Verse 103 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:103
Truly, in this is a sign; yet most of them had not been ones who believe
Verse 104 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:104
And, truly, thy Lord, He is The Almighty, The Compassionate
Verse 105 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:105
The folk of Noah denied the ones who are sent
Verse 106 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:106
when their brother, Noah, said to them: Will you not be Godfearing
Verse 107 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:107
Truly, I am a trustworthy Messenger to you
Verse 108 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:108
so be Godfearing of God and obey me
Verse 109 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:109
And I ask you not for any compensation for it. My compensation is only from the Lord of the worlds
Verse 110 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:110
So be Godfearing of God and obey you me
Verse 111 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:111
They said: Will we believe in thee when it is the most wretched that followed thee
Verse 112 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:112
He said: And what knowledge have I of what they had been doing
Verse 113 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:113
Truly, their reckoning is but with my Lord if you be aware
Verse 114 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:114
I am not one who drives away the ones who believe
Verse 115 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:115
I am not but a clear warner
Verse 116 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:116
They said: If thou hast not refrained thyself, O Noah, thou wilt, certainly, be among the ones who are stoned
Verse 117 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:117
He said: My Lord! My folk denied me
Verse 118 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:118
so give Thou deliverance between me and them and victory and deliver me and whoever is with me among the ones who believe
Verse 119 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:119
And We rescued him and whoever was with him in the laden boat
Verse 120 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:120
Again, We drowned after that the ones who remained
Verse 121 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:121
In this is, truly, a sign, yet most of them had not been ones who believe
Verse 122 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:122
Thy Lord, He, truly, is The Almighty, The Compassionate
Verse 123 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:123
Ad denied the ones who are sent
Verse 124 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:124
when their brother Hud said to them: Will you not be Godfearing
Verse 125 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:125
Truly, I am a trustworthy Messenger to you
Verse 126 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:126
so be Godfearing of God and obey me
Verse 127 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:127
And I ask you not for any compensation for it. My compensation is only from the Lord of the worlds
Verse 128 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:128
Build you a sign on every high hill to amuse
Verse 129 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:129
And take you for yourselves castles so that perhaps you will dwell in them forever
Verse 130 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:130
And when you seized by force, seized you by force haughtily
Verse 131 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:131
So be Godfearing of God and obey me
Verse 132 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:132
Be Godfearing of Him Who furnished relief to you with all that you know
Verse 133 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:133
He furnished relief to you with flocks and children
Verse 134 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:134
and gardens and springs
Verse 135 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:135
Truly, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day
Verse 136 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:136
They said: It is equal to us whether thou wert to admonish or thou hast not been among the ones who admonish
Verse 137 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:137
Truly, this is nothing but morals of the ancient ones
Verse 138 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:138
and we are not ones who are punished
Verse 139 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:139
So they denied him and We caused them to perish. Truly, in this is a sign yet most of them had not been ones who believe
Verse 140 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:140
And, truly, thy Lord, He is, certainly, The Almighty, The Compassionate
Verse 141 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:141
And Thamud denied the ones who are sent
Verse 142 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:142
when their brother Salih said to them: Will you not be Godfearing
Verse 143 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:143
Truly, I am a trustworthy Messenger to you
Verse 144 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:144
so be Godfearing of God and obey me
Verse 145 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:145
And I ask you not for any compensation for it. My compensation is only from the Lord of the worlds
Verse 146 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:146
Will you be left ones who are safe in what you have here
Verse 147 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:147
in gardens and springs
Verse 148 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:148
and crops of slender spathes of date palm trees
Verse 149 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:149
Will you carve houses out of the mountains as ones who are skillful
Verse 150 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:150
So be Godfearing of God and obey me
Verse 151 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:151
Obey not the command of the ones who are excessive
Verse 152 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:152
who make corruption in and on the earth and make not things right
Verse 153 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:153
They said: Truly, thou art only of the ones against whom a spell is cast
Verse 154 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:154
Thou art not but a mortal like us. So bring us a sign if thou hadst been of the ones who are sincere
Verse 155 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:155
He said: This is a she camel. She has a right to drink and you have a right to drink on a known day
Verse 156 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:156
And afflict her not with evil so that you should take the punishment of a tremendous Day
Verse 157 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:157
But they crippled her and, then, it came to be in the morning that they are ones who are remorseful
Verse 158 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:158
So the punishment took them. Truly, in this is a sign yet most of them had not been ones who believe
Verse 159 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:159
And, truly, thy Lord! He is, certainly, The Almighty, The Compassionate
Verse 160 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:160
The folk of Lot denied the ones who are sent
Verse 161 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:161
when their brother, Lot, said to them: Will you not be Godfearing
Verse 162 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:162
Truly, I am a trustworthy Messenger to you
Verse 163 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:163
so be Godfearing of God and obey me
Verse 164 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:164
And I ask you not for any compensation for it. My compensation is only from the Lord of the worlds
Verse 165 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:165
You approach males among worldly beings
Verse 166 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:166
forsaking spouses whom your Lord created for you? Nay! You are a folk ones who turn away
Verse 167 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:167
They said: If thou hast not refrained thyself, O Lot, thou wilt, certainly, be among ones who are driven out
Verse 168 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:168
He said: I am of the ones with hatred for your actions
Verse 169 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:169
My Lord! Deliver me and my people from what they do
Verse 170 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:170
So We delivered him and his people one and all
Verse 171 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:171
but an old woman of the ones who stay behind
Verse 172 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:172
Again, We destroyed the others
Verse 173 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:173
and We rained down on them a rain. And how evil was the rain for the ones who are warned
Verse 174 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:174
Truly, in this is a sign. Yet most of them had not been ones who believe
Verse 175 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:175
And, truly, thy Lord, He is, certainly, The Almighty, The Compassionate
Verse 176 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:176
The Companions of the Thicket denied the ones who are sent
Verse 177 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:177
When Shuayb said to them: Will you not be Godfearing
Verse 178 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:178
Truly, I am a trustworthy Messenger to you
Verse 179 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:179
so be Godfearing of God and obey me
Verse 180 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:180
And I ask you not for any compensation for it. My compensation is only from the Lord of the worlds
Verse 181 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:181
Live up to the full measure and be not of the ones who cause loss to others by fraud
Verse 182 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:182
And weigh with a straight scale
Verse 183 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:183
and diminish not to humanity their things nor do mischief in or on the earth as ones who make corruption
Verse 184 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:184
And be Godfearing of Him Who created you and the array of the ancient ones
Verse 185 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:185
They said: Thou art only ones against whom a spell is cast
Verse 186 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:186
And thou art nothing but a mortal like us. And, truly, we think thee to be among the ones who lie
Verse 187 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:187
So cause pieces of heaven to drop on us, if you had been among the ones who are sincere
Verse 188 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:188
He said: My Lord is greater in knowledge of what you do
Verse 189 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:189
But they denied him. So took them the punishment on the overshadowing day. Truly, that had been the punishment of a tremendous Day
Verse 190 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:190
Truly, in this is a sign. Yet most of them had not been ones who believe
Verse 191 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:191
And, truly, thy Lord, He is, certainly, The Almighty, The Compassionate
Verse 192 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:192
And this, truly, is the sending down successively of the Lord of the worlds
Verse 193 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:193
that the Trustworthy Spirit brought down
Verse 194 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:194
on thy heart that thou be among the one who warn
Verse 195 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:195
in a clear Arabic tongue
Verse 196 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:196
And, truly, it is in the ancient scrolls of the ancient ones
Verse 197 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:197
Would it not be a sign for them that is known to the knowing among the Children of Israel
Verse 198 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:198
And if We sent it down to some of the non-Arabs
Verse 199 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:199
and he recited it to them, they had not been ones who believe in it
Verse 200 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:200
Thus, We thrust it into the hearts of the ones who sin
Verse 201 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:201
They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment
Verse 202 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:202
Then, it will approach them suddenly while they are not aware
Verse 203 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:203
Then, they will say: Are we ones who are given respite
Verse 204 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:204
Seek they to hasten Our punishment
Verse 205 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:205
Hadst thou considered that if We gave them enjoyment for years
Verse 206 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:206
and, again, there drew near them what they had been promised
Verse 207 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:207
they would not be availed by what they had been given of enjoyment
Verse 208 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:208
We caused no town to perish but that it had ones who warn
Verse 209 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:209
as a reminder. And We had not been ones who are unjust
Verse 210 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:210
It came not forth by the satans
Verse 211 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:211
and neither is it fit and proper for them nor are they able
Verse 212 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:212
Truly, they, from having the ability to hear, are the ones who are set aside
Verse 213 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:213
So call thou not to any god with God so that thou be among the ones who are punished
Verse 214 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:214
And warn thy nearest kin, the kinspeople
Verse 215 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:215
And make low thy wing to whoever followed thee among the ones who believe
Verse 216 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:216
Then, if they rebelled against thee, then, say: Truly, I am free of what you do
Verse 217 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:217
And put thy trust in The Almighty, The Compassionate
Verse 218 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:218
Who sees thee at the time thou hast stood up
Verse 219 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:219
and thy going to and fro of the ones who prostrate themselves
