Translation by Muhammad Taqi Usmani — Permalink

Verse 1 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:1

Verse 2 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:2

These are the verses of the manifest Book

Verse 3 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:3

(O Prophet,) perhaps you are going to let yourself collapse in grief because they do not believe

Verse 4 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:4

If We so will, We can send down to them a sign from the sky, for which their necks will stay bent in submission

Verse 5 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:5

Never a new message comes to them from the RaHman (the All-Merciful Allah), but they become averse to it

Verse 6 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:6

Thus they rejected (the Truth); well, soon will come to them the real descriptions of what they used to ridicule

Verse 7 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:7

Have they not looked at the earth, how many of the noble pairs (of vegetation) We have caused to grow in it

Verse 8 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:8

Surely, in this there is a sign, but most of them are not believers

Verse 9 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:9

and indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful

Verse 10 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:10

(Remember) when your Lord called Musa saying, .Go to the transgressing people

Verse 11 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:11

the people of Pharaoh. Do they not fear Allah

Verse 12 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:12

He (Musa) said, .My Lord, I fear that they will reject me

Verse 13 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:13

My heart gets straitened, and my tongue is not fluent; so send for Harun

Verse 14 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:14

Moreover, they have (leveled) a charge of offence against me, and I fear they will kill me

Verse 15 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:15

He (Allah) said, .Never! (They will not be able to kill you.) So go, both of you, with Our signs. We are with you, listening (to the conversation you will have with him)

Verse 16 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:16

So go, both of you, to Pharaoh and say, ‘We both are messengers of the Lord of all the worlds

Verse 17 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:17

(sent with the message) that you must send the children of Isra‘il with us‘

Verse 18 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:18

He (Pharaoh) said, .Did we not nourish you among us as a child? And you remained amidst us for years

Verse 19 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:19

and you did the blunder you did; still you are ungrateful

Verse 20 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:20

He said, .I did that at a time when I was mistaken

Verse 21 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:21

Then I fled away from you when I feared you. Thereafter my Lord granted wisdom to me, and made me one of the messengers

Verse 22 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:22

As for the favor with which you are obliging me, it is that you have enslaved the children of Isra‘il

Verse 23 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:23

Pharaoh said, .What is the Lord of the worlds

Verse 24 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:24

He (Musa) said, .Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever there is between them, if you are to believe

Verse 25 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:25

He (The Pharaoh) said to those around him, .Are you not hearing

Verse 26 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:26

He (Musa) said, .Your Lord and the Lord of your early forefathers

Verse 27 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:27

He (Pharaoh) said, .Your messenger who is sent to you is a mad man indeed

Verse 28 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:28

He (Musa) said, .Lord of the East and the West and whatever lies between them, if you are to understand

Verse 29 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:29

He (Pharaoh) said, .If you adopt a God other than me, I will certainly put you to prison

Verse 30 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:30

He (Musa) said .Will you (do this) even if I bring to you something evident

Verse 31 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:31

He said, .Then bring it, if you are truthful

Verse 32 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:32

So, he threw down his staff, and in no time it was a serpent, clearly visible

Verse 33 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:33

and he drew out his hand, and right then it was a white light to the onlookers

Verse 34 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:34

He (Pharaoh) said to the chiefs around him .This man is certainly an expert sorcerer

Verse 35 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:35

He wants to expel you from your land with his sorcery. So what do you suggest

Verse 36 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:36

They said, .Leave him and his brother alone for some time, and send heralds to the cities

Verse 37 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:37

so that they bring to you every highly expert sorcerer

Verse 38 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:38

So the sorcerers were assembled for the appointed time of a known day

Verse 39 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:39

and it was said to the people, .Would you assemble

Verse 40 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:40

so that we may follow the sorcerers if they are victorious

Verse 41 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:41

So, when the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh, .Will there be a sure reward for us, if we are the victorious

Verse 42 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:42

He said, .Yes, and of course, you will then be among the closer ones

Verse 43 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:43

Musa said to them, .Throw you down what you are to throw

Verse 44 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:44

So they threw down their ropes and their staffs and said, .By the majesty of Pharaoh, we will be the triumphant for sure

Verse 45 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:45

Then Musa threw down his staff, and in no time it started swallowing the falsehood they invented

Verse 46 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:46

So the sorcerers were made (by the truth they saw) to fall down in prostration

Verse 47 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:47

They said, .We have believed in the Lord of the worlds

Verse 48 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:48

the Lord of Musa and Harun

Verse 49 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:49

He (Pharaoh) said, .You have believed in him before I permit you. Surely, he (Musa) is the chief of you all, who has taught you sorcery. So you will soon know (your fate). I will cut off your hands and feet from different sides, and will crucify you all together

Verse 50 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:50

They said, .There is no harm. We will return to our Lord

Verse 51 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:51

We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our faults, as we are the first of the believers

Verse 52 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:52

And We revealed to Musa saying, .Make My servants travel at night. You will be pursued

Verse 53 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:53

So Pharaoh sent into the cities (his) men to muster (people)

Verse 54 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:54

saying, .These are a small band

Verse 55 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:55

and indeed they are enraging us

Verse 56 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:56

and we are a host, well-armed

Verse 57 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:57

Thus We expelled them (i.e. the people of Pharaoh) from gardens and springs

Verse 58 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:58

and from treasures and a noble abode

Verse 59 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:59

Thus it was. And We made the children of Isra‘il inherit all such things

Verse 60 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:60

So they (the people of Pharaoh) pursued them (the people of Musa) at the time of sunrise

Verse 61 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:61

And when the two hosts saw each other, the companions of Musa said, .Surely we are overtaken

Verse 62 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:62

He said, .Never! Indeed with me is my Lord. He will guide me

Verse 63 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:63

So We revealed to Musa saying, .Strike the sea with your staff. So it was severed apart, and each part became like a big mountain

Verse 64 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:64

Then We brought others close to that place

Verse 65 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:65

And We saved Musa and all those with him

Verse 66 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:66

Then we drowned the others

Verse 67 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:67

Surely, in this there is a sign, but most of them are not believers

Verse 68 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:68

and indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful

Verse 69 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:69

And recite before them the narrative of Ibrahim

Verse 70 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:70

when he said to his father and to his people, .What do you worship

Verse 71 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:71

They said, .We worship idols, and stay devoted to them

Verse 72 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:72

He said, .Do they listen to you when you call (them)

Verse 73 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:73

or do they bring benefit to you or harm

Verse 74 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:74

They said, .No, but we have found our fathers doing like this

Verse 75 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:75

He said, .Have you then ever considered what you have been worshipping

Verse 76 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:76

you and your ancient fathers

Verse 77 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:77

they all are an enemy to me, except the Lord of the worlds

Verse 78 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:78

who created me, and who guides me

Verse 79 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:79

and Who feeds me and gives me drink

Verse 80 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:80

and when I become sick, He heals me

Verse 81 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:81

and who will make me die, then will give me life

Verse 82 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:82

and who, I hope, will forgive my fault on the Day of Retribution

Verse 83 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:83

O my Lord, give me wisdom, and make me join the righteous

Verse 84 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:84

and destine for me a truthful description among the next generations

Verse 85 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:85

and make me among those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss

Verse 86 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:86

and forgive my father. Indeed he was one of those who went astray

Verse 87 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:87

and do not put me to disgrace on the Day when all will be raised to life

Verse 88 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:88

the Day when neither wealth will be of any use (to any one) nor sons

Verse 89 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:89

except to him who will come to Allah with a sound heart

Verse 90 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:90

and the Paradise will be brought near to the God-fearing

Verse 91 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:91

and the Hell will be fully uncovered for the perverse

Verse 92 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:92

and it will be said to them, ‘Where is that which you used to worship

Verse 93 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:93

beside Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?‘

Verse 94 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:94

So they (their false gods) will be thrown on their faces into it - they and the erring people

Verse 95 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:95

and the entire army of Iblis (Satan), all together

Verse 96 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:96

They will say when they will be quarreling there with each other

Verse 97 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:97

Verse 98 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:98

when we used to equate you with the Lord of the worlds

Verse 99 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:99

and it is only the sinners who misguided us

Verse 100 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:100

Now we have neither any intercessors

Verse 101 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:101

Verse 102 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:102

Would that we have a chance to return whereby we may join the believers!‘

Verse 103 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:103

Surely, in this there is a sign, but most of them are not believers

Verse 104 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:104

and indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful

Verse 105 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:105

The people of NuH rejected the messengers

Verse 106 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:106

when their brother NuH said to them, .Do you not fear Allah

Verse 107 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:107

I am an honest messenger for you

Verse 108 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:108

So, fear Allah and obey me

Verse 109 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:109

I do not claim from you any reward for it. My reward is with none but with the Lord of the worlds

Verse 110 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:110

so, fear Allah and obey me

Verse 111 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:111

They said, .Shall we believe in you while you are followed by the lowest people

Verse 112 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:112

He said, .I do not know about what they do

Verse 113 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:113

their account is with none but with my Lord, if you have sense

Verse 114 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:114

And I am not the one who would drive the believers away

Verse 115 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:115

I am no more than a plain warner

Verse 116 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:116

They said, .Should you not stop, O NuH, you will surely be stoned

Verse 117 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:117

He said, .My Lord, my people have rejected me

Verse 118 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:118

So judge between me and them with an open verdict, and save me and all the believers who are with me

Verse 119 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:119

So We saved him and those with him in the Ark that was fully occupied

Verse 120 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:120

Then We drowned, after that, all the remaining

Verse 121 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:121

Surely, in this there is a sign, but most of them are not believers

Verse 122 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:122

and indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Very-Merciful

Verse 123 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:123

The (people of) ‘Ad rejected the messengers

Verse 124 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:124

when their brother Hud said to them, .Do you not fear Allah

Verse 125 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:125

I am an honest messenger for you

Verse 126 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:126

so fear Allah and obey me

Verse 127 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:127

I do not claim from you any reward for it. My reward is with none but with the Lord of the worlds

Verse 128 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:128

Do you erect on every height a monument, having no sound purpose

Verse 129 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:129

and take the objects of architecture as if you are going to live forever

Verse 130 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:130

and when you seize (someone) you seize as tyrants

Verse 131 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:131

So fear Allah and obey me

Verse 132 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:132

And fear the One who has supported you with what you know

Verse 133 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:133

He has supported you with cattle and sons

Verse 134 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:134

and with gardens and springs

Verse 135 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:135

In fact I fear for you the punishment of a horrible day

Verse 136 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:136

They said, .It is all equal for us, whether you give us advice or you do not become one of the advisors

Verse 137 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:137

This is nothing but the practice of the ancient

Verse 138 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:138

and we are not going to be punished

Verse 139 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:139

Thus they rejected him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in this there is a sign, but most of them are not believers

Verse 140 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:140

and indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful

Verse 141 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:141

The (people of) Thamud rejected the messengers

Verse 142 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:142

when their brother SaliH said to them, .Do you not fear Allah

Verse 143 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:143

I am an honest messenger for you

Verse 144 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:144

So, fear Allah and obey me

Verse 145 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:145

I do not claim from you any reward for it. My reward is with none but with the Lord of the worlds

Verse 146 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:146

Will you be left secure in whatever is here

Verse 147 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:147

in gardens and springs

Verse 148 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:148

and in farms and date-palms, the spathes of which are interwoven

Verse 149 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:149

You hew out houses from the hills with pride

Verse 150 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:150

So fear Allah and obey me

Verse 151 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:151

and do not obey the order of the transgressors

Verse 152 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:152

who make mischief on the land and who do not set things right

Verse 153 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:153

They said, .You are merely one of those bewitched

Verse 154 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:154

You are nothing but a human like us. So, bring a sign if you are one of the truthful

Verse 155 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:155

He said, .This is a she-camel. She has a share of water, and you have a share of water on a specified day

Verse 156 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:156

So do not touch her with evil (intent), lest you should be seized by a painful punishment

Verse 157 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:157

But they killed her, then they became remorseful

Verse 158 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:158

and the punishment seized them. Surely, in this there is a sign, but most of them are not believers

Verse 159 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:159

and indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful

Verse 160 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:160

The people of LuT rejected the messengers

Verse 161 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:161

when their brother LuT said to them, .Do you not fear Allah

Verse 162 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:162

I am an honest messenger for you

Verse 163 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:163

So fear Allah and obey me

Verse 164 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:164

I do not claim from you any reward for it. My reward is with none but with the Lord of the worlds

Verse 165 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:165

Do you go to the males (for having sex) out of the whole universe

Verse 166 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:166

and leave your wives whom your Lord has created for you? Indeed you are a people who cross (all) limits

Verse 167 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:167

They said, .If you do not stop O LuT, you shall be included among the outcast

Verse 168 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:168

He said .Indeed, I am annoyed with your act

Verse 169 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:169

My Lord, save me and my family from what they do

Verse 170 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:170

So We saved him and his family, all of them

Verse 171 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:171

except an old woman among those who remained behind

Verse 172 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:172

Then We destroyed the others

Verse 173 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:173

and subjected them to a terrible rain. So evil was the rain of those who were warned

Verse 174 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:174

Surely, in this there is a sign, but most of them are not believers

Verse 175 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:175

and indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful

Verse 176 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:176

The people of Aaikah rejected the messengers

Verse 177 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:177

when Shu‘aib said to them, .Do you not fear Allah

Verse 178 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:178

I am an honest messenger for you

Verse 179 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:179

So fear Allah and obey me

Verse 180 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:180

And I do not claim from you any reward for it; my reward is with none but with the Lord of the worlds

Verse 181 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:181

Give full measure, and do not be among those who bring loss to others

Verse 182 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:182

Weigh with an even balance

Verse 183 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:183

and do not make people short of their things, and do not spread disorder in the land as mischief-makers

Verse 184 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:184

and be fearful of the One who created you and the former generations

Verse 185 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:185

They said, .You are but one of the bewitched men

Verse 186 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:186

You are no more than a human like us, and in fact we consider you to be one of the liars

Verse 187 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:187

So cause a piece from the sky to fall down upon us, if you are one of the truthful

Verse 188 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:188

He said, .My Lord knows well what you do

Verse 189 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:189

Thus they rejected him, so they were seized by the torment of the Day of Canopy. Indeed it was the punishment of a terrible day

Verse 190 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:190

Surely, in this there is a sign, but most of them are not believers

Verse 191 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:191

and indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful

Verse 192 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:192

This (Qur‘an) is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds

Verse 193 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:193

The Trusted Spirit has brought it down

Verse 194 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:194

upon your heart, so that you become one of the warners

Verse 195 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:195

in plain Arabic language

Verse 196 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:196

And of course, it is (mentioned) in the Scriptures of the former people

Verse 197 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:197

Is it not a proof for them that the knowledgeable of the children of Isra‘il recognize him (the prophet)

Verse 198 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:198

Even if We had revealed it to a Non-Arab

Verse 199 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:199

and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it

Verse 200 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:200

This is how We have made it pass through the hearts of the sinners

Verse 201 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:201

They will not believe in it until they will see the painful punishment

Verse 202 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:202

and it will come to them suddenly while they will not be anticipating (it)

Verse 203 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:203

and (then) they will say, .Is it (possible) that we are given some respite

Verse 204 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:204

Is it then Our punishment that they are trying to hasten up

Verse 205 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:205

So tell me, if We give them enjoyment for years

Verse 206 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:206

then comes to them what they are warned of

Verse 207 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:207

what help can they receive from the comforts they were given to enjoy

Verse 208 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:208

We did not destroy any town unless it has had warners

Verse 209 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:209

to give advice, and We have never been unjust

Verse 210 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:210

And this (Qur‘an) is not brought down by devils

Verse 211 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:211

It neither suits them, nor are they able to (do this)

Verse 212 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:212

In fact, they are kept far away from hearing (it at the time of revelation)

Verse 213 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:213

So do not invoke any other god along with Allah, otherwise you will be among those who are to be punished

Verse 214 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:214

And warn the nearest people of your clan

Verse 215 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:215

and be kind with humbleness to the believers who followed you

Verse 216 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:216

So if they disobey you, then say, .I disown what you do

Verse 217 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:217

and place your trust in the Mighty, the Merciful

Verse 218 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:218

Who sees you when you stand (in prayer)

Verse 219 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:219

and (sees) your movement among those who prostrate themselves

Verse 220 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:220

Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing

Verse 221 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:221

Shall I tell you on whom the devils descend

Verse 222 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:222

They descend on every sinful liar

Verse 223 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:223
