Verse 1 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:1

The reckoning of the people has drawn near, yet they are turning away heedlessly

Verse 2 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:2

Whenever new revelation comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in jest

Verse 3 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:3

with their hearts heedless. The wrongdoers whisper to one another in secret, “Is this but a human being just like yourselves? Will you then follow his magic, although you openly see?”

Verse 4 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:4

He said, “My Lord knows every word spoken in the heavens and earth, for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”

Verse 5 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:5

Yet they say, “This [Qur’an] is a set of jumbled dreams! Rather, he has fabricated it! Rather, he is a poet! So let him bring us a sign such as the earlier messengers were sent with.”

Verse 6 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:6

Not a single town We destroyed before them believed [after receiving signs]; will they then believe

Verse 7 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:7

We did not send before you [O Prophet] except men to whom We gave revelation, so [O people] ask the People of the Scriptures if you do not know

Verse 8 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:8

We did not give them bodies that needed no food, nor were they immortal

Verse 9 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:9

Then We fulfilled Our promise to them: We saved them and those whom We willed, and destroyed those who transgressed all bounds

Verse 10 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:10

We have sent down to you [O people] a Book in which there is honor for you. Do you not then understand

Verse 11 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:11

[Imagine] how many towns of evildoers We have destroyed, and raised up after them another people

Verse 12 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:12

When they sensed Our punishment, they started running away from it

Verse 13 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:13

“Do not run away, but return to your luxuries and dwellings, perhaps you will be questioned.”

Verse 14 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:14

They said, “Woe to us! We were indeed wrongdoers.”

Verse 15 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:15

They kept crying out loud this until We mowed them down, lifeless

Verse 16 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:16

We did not create the heavens and earth and all that is between them for fun

Verse 17 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:17

If We had wished for a pastime, We could have had it from Our own, if We were to do so

Verse 18 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:18

Rather, We hurl the truth at falsehood, and it crushes it, so it vanishes. Woe to you for what you falsely ascribe [to Allah]

Verse 19 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:19

To Him belongs all those who are in the heavens and earth. Those [angels] who are with Him are not too proud to worship Him, nor do they ever grow weary

Verse 20 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:20

They glorify Him day and night tirelessly

Verse 21 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:21

Or have they taken gods from the earth who [cannot even] resurrect the dead

Verse 22 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:22

If there had been gods besides Allah in the heavens and earth, both realms would have fallen in disorder. Glory be to Allah – Lord of the Throne – far above what they ascribe [to Him]

Verse 23 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:23

He cannot be questioned for what He does, but they will be questioned

Verse 24 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:24

Or have they taken other gods besides Him? Say, “Bring your proof. Here is the Book of those who are with me, and the Book of those who came before me.” Yet most of them do not know the truth, so they turn away

Verse 25 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:25

“We never sent before you [O Prophet] any messenger without revealing to him that none has the right to be worshiped except Me, so worship Me.”

Verse 26 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:26

They say, “The Most Compassionate has begotten offspring!” Glory be to Him! In fact, those [angels] are His honored slaves

Verse 27 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:27

They do not speak before He speaks, and they only do as He commands

Verse 28 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:28

He knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them. They cannot intercede except for whom He pleases, and they are fearful in awe of Him

Verse 29 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:29

If anyone of them were to say, “I am god besides Him,” We would punish him with Hell. This is how We punish the wrongdoers

Verse 30 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:30

Are the disbelievers not aware that the heavens and earth were joined together and then We split them apart? We created from water every living thing. Will they not then believe

Verse 31 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:31

We have set on the earth firm mountains so it does not shake with them, and We have made therein broad pathways so that they may find their way

Verse 32 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:32

And We have made the sky a well-protected canopy, yet they turn away from its signs

Verse 33 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:33

It is He Who created the night and the day, the sun and the moon – each floating in its orbit

Verse 34 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:34

We did not grant immortality to any human being before you [O Prophet]. So if you die, will they live forever

Verse 35 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:35

Every soul will taste death; We test you with bad and good as a trial, then to Us you will all be returned

Verse 36 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:36

When the disbelievers see you, they only take you in ridicule, [saying], “Is this the one who speaks ill of your gods?” while they reject even the mention of the Most Compassionate

Verse 37 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:37

Man is created of haste. I will show you My signs, so do not ask Me to hasten them

Verse 38 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:38

They say, “When will this promise come to pass, if you are truthful?”

Verse 39 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:39

If only the disbelievers knew the moment when they will be unable to ward the Fire off their faces or their backs, nor will they be helped

Verse 40 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:40

Rather, it will come upon them suddenly and stun them; they will not be able to avert it, nor will they be given respite

Verse 41 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:41

Indeed, there were messengers before you who were ridiculed, but those who mocked them were encompassed by what they used to ridicule

Verse 42 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:42

Say, “Who can protect you by night and by day against the Most Compassionate?” Yet they turn away from the admonition of their Lord

Verse 43 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:43

Do they have gods who can defend them against Us? They cannot even help themselves, nor will they be protected from Us

Verse 44 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:44

Nevertheless, We have provided for them and their forefathers luxuries which they enjoyed for a long time. Do they not see that We gradually reduce the land from its outlying sides? Is it they who will then prevail

Verse 45 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:45

Say, “I only warn you by divine revelation.” But the deaf cannot hear the call when they are warned

Verse 46 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:46

If a mere breath of your Lord’s torment were to touch them, they would surely say, “Woe to us! We were indeed wrongdoers.”

Verse 47 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:47

We will place the scales of justice on the Day of Resurrection, and no soul will be wronged in the least. Even if a deed is the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. Sufficient are We as Reckoners

Verse 48 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:48

We certainly gave Moses and Aaron the Criterion, a shining light and admonition for the righteous

Verse 49 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:49

those who fear their Lord without seeing Him, and are apprehensive of the Hour

Verse 50 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:50

And this [Qur’an] is a blessed reminder which We have sent down. Are you still denying it

Verse 51 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:51

Indeed, We had given Abraham sound judgment before, for We know him well

Verse 52 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:52

When he said to his father and his people, “What are these statues to which you are so devoted?”

Verse 53 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:53

They said, “We found our forefathers worshiping them.”

Verse 54 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:54

He said, “Indeed, you and your forefathers were clearly misguided.”

Verse 55 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:55

They said, “Have you come to us with the truth, or are you joking?”

Verse 56 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:56

He said, “Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and earth, Who created them, and I am one of those who bear witness to it

Verse 57 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:57

By Allah, I will surely plot against your idols after you have turned and gone away.”

Verse 58 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:58

So he broke them into pieces, except the biggest of them, so that they might come back to it

Verse 59 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:59

They said, “Who has done this to our gods? He is indeed one of the wrongdoers.”

Verse 60 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:60

They said, “We heard a young man, speaking ill of them, who is called Abraham.”

Verse 61 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:61

They said, “Bring him then before the eyes of the people, so that they may witness [his trial].”

Verse 62 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:62

They said, “Are you the one who did this to our gods, O Abraham?”

Verse 63 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:63

He said, “Rather, it was this biggest one who did it. So ask them, if they can speak!”

Verse 64 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:64

So they turned back to one another, and said, “Indeed, it is you who are the wrongdoers.”

Verse 65 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:65

Then they turned to their obstinacy, [saying], “You already know that they cannot speak.”

Verse 66 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:66

Abraham said, “Do you then worship besides Allah that which can neither benefit nor harm you in the least

Verse 67 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:67

Fie upon you and upon all that you worship besides Allah! Do you not have any sense?”

Verse 68 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:68

They said, “Burn him and avenge your gods, if you must do something.”

Verse 69 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:69

We said, “O fire, be cool and safe for Abraham.”

Verse 70 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:70

They plotted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers

Verse 71 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:71

And We saved him and Lot [and brought him] to the land [of Levant] that we have blessed for all people

Verse 72 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:72

And We gave him Isaac, and then Jacob, a grandson, and We made all of them righteous

Verse 73 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:73

And We made them leaders, guiding people by Our command, and We inspired them to do righteous deeds, establish prayer and give zakah; and they were Our true worshipers

Verse 74 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:74

To Lot We gave sound judgment and knowledge, and We saved him from the town that was engrossed in shameful practices. They were Indeed an evil and rebellious people

Verse 75 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:75

And We admitted him to Our mercy, for he was one of the righteous

Verse 76 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:76

And [remember] Noah, when he called out to Us before, so We responded to him and saved him and his household from the great distress

Verse 77 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:77

And We helped him against the people who rejected Our signs. They were indeed an evil people, so We drowned them all

Verse 78 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:78

And [remember] David and Solomon, when they passed judgment about the tillage into which some people’s sheep had strayed at night, and We were witnesses to their judgment

Verse 79 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:79

We made Solomon understand it, although We gave each of them sound judgment and knowledge. We subjected the mountains and birds to glorify Allah along with David. It was We Who did all this

Verse 80 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:80

And We taught him the art of making coats of mail for you to protect yourselves in your battle. Will you then be grateful

Verse 81 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:81

And to Solomon [We subjected] the raging wind, to blow by his command to the land We had blessed. It is We Who have full knowledge of everything

Verse 82 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:82

And among the devils [We subjected] those who dived for him and performed other duties. It is We Who were watching over them

Verse 83 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:83

And [remember] Job, when he cried out to his Lord, “I have been struck by adversity, and You are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.”

Verse 84 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:84

So We responded to him and relieved his adversity, and We restored to him his family, twice as many, as a mercy from Us and as a reminder for Our worshipers

Verse 85 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:85

And [remember] Ishmael, Idrīs and Dhul-Kifl; they were all steadfast

Verse 86 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:86

And We admitted them to Our mercy, for they were truly righteous

Verse 87 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:87

And [remember] the Man of the Whale [Jonah] when he departed in anger, thinking that We would not take him to task. Then he cried out in the depths of darkness, “None has the right to be worshiped except You. Glory be to You! I have certainly done wrong”

Verse 88 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:88

So We answered his prayer and rescued him from distress. This is how We rescue the believers

Verse 89 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:89

And [remember] Zachariah, when he cried out to his Lord, “My Lord, do not leave me childless, for You are the Best of Inheritors.”

Verse 90 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:90

So We answered his prayer and gave him John, and made his wife fertile. They used to hasten in doing good deeds and used to call upon Us with hope and fear, and they were humble before Us

Verse 91 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:91

And [remember Mary] who guarded her chastity; We breathed in her through Our spirit [Gabriel], and made her and her son a sign for all people

Verse 92 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:92

Indeed, this religion of yours is one religion, and I am your Lord, so worship Me alone

Verse 93 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:93

But people have divided themselves into sects; yet they will all return to Us

Verse 94 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:94

Whoever does righteous deeds while he is a believer, his efforts will not be denied, for We are recording them all

Verse 95 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:95

It is not possible for any town that We have destroyed to ever come back [to this world]

Verse 96 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:96

until when Gog and Magog are let loose, swarming swiftly from every mound

Verse 97 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:97

when the True Promise draws near, the eyes of those who disbelieved will stare in horror, [saying], “Woe to us! We were indeed heedless of this; nay, we were wrongdoers.”

Verse 98 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:98

Indeed, you and all that you worship besides Allah will be the fuel for Hell; you will surely enter it

Verse 99 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:99

If these [idols] had truly been gods, they would not have entered it. But they will all abide therein forever

Verse 100 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:100

They will groan therein with anguish, and they will not be able to hear anything

Verse 101 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:101

But those for whom We have decreed the finest reward, they will be far away from it

Verse 102 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:102

They will not hear its slightest hissing, and they will abide forever in whatever their souls desire

Verse 103 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:103

They will not be grieved by the Greatest Terror, and the angels will receive them [saying], “This is your Day that you were promised”

Verse 104 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:104

On the Day when We roll up the heavens like a scroll of records. Just as We originated the first creation, so We will bring it back. That is Our binding promise, which We will surely do

Verse 105 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:105

We have written in the Psalms after the Preserved Record, that the land will be inherited by My righteous slaves

Verse 106 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:106

Indeed, there is a message in this [Qur’an] for devoted worshipers

Verse 107 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:107

We have not sent you [O Prophet] except as a mercy to the worlds

Verse 108 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:108

Say, “It is only revealed to me that your God is only One God; will you then submit to Him

Verse 109 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:109

But if they turn away, say, “I have proclaimed the message to you all alike, and I do not know whether what you are warned of is near or far

Verse 110 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:110

Indeed, He knows what is said openly and knows what you conceal

Verse 111 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:111

I do not know; perhaps this [delay] is a test for you and an enjoyment for a while.”

Verse 112 — Surah Al-Anbiya 21:112

[The Prophet] said, “My Lord, judge [between us] in truth. Our Lord is the Most Compassionate Whose help is to be sought against what you describe.”
