Translation by The Study Quran — Permalink
Verse 1 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:1
Sin. Mim
Verse 2 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:2
These are the signs of the clear Book
Verse 3 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:3
Perhaps thou dost torment thyself that they are not believers
Verse 4 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:4
If We will, We will send down a sign from Heaven and their heads would remain bowed before it in humility
Verse 5 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:5
Yet no new reminder comes to them from the Compassionate, but that they turn away from it
Verse 6 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:6
Indeed, they have denied it, but there shall come to them the tidings of that which they used to mock
Verse 7 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:7
Have they not considered the earth, how much of every noble kind We have caused to grow therein
Verse 8 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:8
Truly in that is a sign, but most of them are not believers
Verse 9 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:9
And truly thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful
Verse 10 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:10
And [remember] when thy Lord called out to Moses, “Go to the wrongdoing people
Verse 11 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:11
the people of Pharaoh. Will they not be reverent?”
Verse 12 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:12
He said, “My Lord, truly I fear that they will deny me
Verse 13 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:13
And my breast will be straitened, and my tongue will not be unfettered; so send unto Aaron
Verse 14 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:14
And they have a crime against me; thus I fear that they will slay me.”
Verse 15 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:15
He said, “Nay! Go forth, then, with Our signs. We shall be with you, listening
Verse 16 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:16
So go to Pharaoh and say, ‘Verily we are sent by the Lord of the worlds
Verse 17 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:17
that you may send with us the Children of Israel.’”
Verse 18 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:18
He said, “Did we not raise you among us as a child, and did you not stay among us for years of your life
Verse 19 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:19
And you did your deed which you did, and you are one of the ingrates.”
Verse 20 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:20
He said, “I did it then, when I was one of those who are astray
Verse 21 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:21
So I fled from you when I was afraid of you. Then my Lord granted me judgment and placed me among the messengers
Verse 22 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:22
And that blessing you recount to me is that you have enslaved the Children of Israel.”
Verse 23 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:23
Pharaoh said, “And what is the Lord of the worlds?”
Verse 24 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:24
He said, “The Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is between them—would that you were certain.”
Verse 25 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:25
He said to those around him, “Do you not hear?”
Verse 26 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:26
He said, “Your Lord, and the Lord of your fathers of old.”
Verse 27 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:27
He said, “Truly your messenger who has been sent to you is possessed!”
Verse 28 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:28
He said, “The Lord of the East and the West and whatsoever is between them, if you understand.”
Verse 29 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:29
He said, “Truly if you take a god apart from me, I shall place you among the imprisoned!”
Verse 30 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:30
He said, “And if I bring you something manifest?”
Verse 31 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:31
“Bring it, then, if you are among the truthful.”
Verse 32 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:32
So Moses cast his staff, and behold, it was a serpent manifest
Verse 33 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:33
Then he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to the beholders
Verse 34 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:34
He said to the notables around him, “Truly this is a knowing sorcerer
Verse 35 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:35
who desires to expel you from your land with his sorcery. What would you command?”
Verse 36 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:36
They said, “Leave him and his brother a while, and send marshalers to the cities
Verse 37 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:37
to bring to you every knowing sorcerer.”
Verse 38 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:38
So the sorcerers were brought together for the tryst of an appointed day
Verse 39 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:39
And it was said unto the people, “Will you gather
Verse 40 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:40
that haply we may follow the sorcerers if they are the victors?”
Verse 41 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:41
Then, when the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh, “Shall we truly have a reward if we are the victors?”
Verse 42 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:42
He said, “Yes, and you shall then be among those brought nigh.”
Verse 43 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:43
Moses said to them, “Cast what you would cast!”
Verse 44 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:44
So they cast their ropes and staffs and said, “By the might of Pharaoh, we shall surely be the victors!”
Verse 45 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:45
Then Moses cast his staff, and behold, it devours what they make falsely
Verse 46 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:46
Then were the sorcerers cast down, prostrating
Verse 47 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:47
They said, “We believe in the Lord of the worlds
Verse 48 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:48
the Lord of Moses and Aaron.”
Verse 49 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:49
He said, “Do you believe in Him before I give you leave? He is indeed your chief, who has taught you sorcery. You will surely know! I shall surely cut off your hands and your feet from opposite sides, and I shall surely crucify you all!”
Verse 50 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:50
They said, “It is no harm. Truly unto our Lord do we turn
Verse 51 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:51
Truly we hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins for our having been the first of the believers.”
Verse 52 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:52
Then We revealed unto Moses, “Set forth with My servants by night; you shall indeed be pursued.”
Verse 53 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:53
Then Pharaoh sent marshalers to the cities [saying]
Verse 54 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:54
“These indeed are a small band
Verse 55 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:55
and indeed they have enraged us
Verse 56 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:56
and we are a host at the ready!”
Verse 57 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:57
So We expelled them from gardens and springs
Verse 58 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:58
and treasures and a noble station
Verse 59 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:59
So it was, and We made the Children of Israel to inherit them
Verse 60 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:60
Then they pursued them at sunrise
Verse 61 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:61
And when the two hosts saw one another, the companions of Moses said, “We are overtaken!”
Verse 62 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:62
He said, “Nay! Truly my Lord is with me; He will guide me.”
Verse 63 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:63
Then We revealed unto Moses, “Strike the sea with thy staff!” and it parted, and each part was as a great mountain
Verse 64 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:64
And thither We brought the others nigh
Verse 65 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:65
And We delivered Moses and those with him all together
Verse 66 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:66
Then We drowned the others
Verse 67 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:67
Truly in that is a sign, though most of them are not believers
Verse 68 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:68
And truly thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful
Verse 69 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:69
And recite unto them the story of Abraham
Verse 70 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:70
when he said to his father and his people, “What are you worshipping?”
Verse 71 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:71
They said, “We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them.”
Verse 72 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:72
He said, “Do they hear you when you call
Verse 73 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:73
Or do they benefit or harm you?”
Verse 74 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:74
They said, “Nay, but we found our fathers doing so.”
Verse 75 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:75
He said, “Have you considered what you worship
Verse 76 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:76
you and your ancestors
Verse 77 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:77
For they are all enemies unto me, save the Lord of the worlds
Verse 78 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:78
Who created me, and guides me
Verse 79 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:79
and Who feeds me and gives me drink
Verse 80 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:80
and Who, when I am ill, heals me
Verse 81 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:81
and Who causes me to die, then gives me life
Verse 82 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:82
and Who I hope will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgment
Verse 83 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:83
My Lord! Grant me judgment, and bind me to the righteous
Verse 84 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:84
And make for me faithful renown among later generations
Verse 85 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:85
And place me among the heirs of the Garden of bliss
Verse 86 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:86
And forgive my father—he is one of those who are astray
Verse 87 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:87
And disgrace me not on the Day they are resurrected
Verse 88 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:88
the Day when neither wealth nor children avail
Verse 89 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:89
save for him who comes to God with a sound heart.”
Verse 90 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:90
And the Garden will be brought nigh unto the reverent
Verse 91 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:91
and Hellfire will become apparent to the errant
Verse 92 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:92
And it will be said unto them, “Where is that which you worshipped
Verse 93 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:93
apart from God? Are they helping you or helping themselves?”
Verse 94 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:94
Then they shall be toppled into it, they and the errant
Verse 95 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:95
and the hosts of Iblis all together
Verse 96 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:96
They will say, as they dispute with one another therein
Verse 97 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:97
“By God, indeed we were in manifest error
Verse 98 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:98
when we made you equal with the Lord of the worlds
Verse 99 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:99
And none caused us to go astray but the guilty
Verse 100 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:100
So now we have no intercessors
Verse 101 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:101
nor any loyal friend
Verse 102 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:102
If we had another turn, we would be among the believers.”
Verse 103 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:103
Truly in that is a sign, but most of them are not believers
Verse 104 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:104
And truly thy Lord is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful
Verse 105 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:105
The people of Noah denied the messengers
Verse 106 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:106
when their brother Noah said unto them, “Will you not be reverent
Verse 107 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:107
Truly I am a trustworthy messenger unto you
Verse 108 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:108
So reverence God and obey me
Verse 109 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:109
And I ask not of you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of the worlds
Verse 110 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:110
So reverence God and obey me.”
Verse 111 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:111
They said, “Shall we believe you, when the lowliest follow you?”
Verse 112 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:112
He said, “What knowledge have I of what they used to do
Verse 113 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:113
Their reckoning is only by my Lord, were you but aware
Verse 114 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:114
And I shall not drive away the believers
Verse 115 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:115
I am but a clear warner.”
Verse 116 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:116
They said, “Truly if you cease not, O Noah, you shall indeed be among the stoned.”
Verse 117 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:117
He said, “My Lord, verily my people have denied me
Verse 118 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:118
So decide between me and them, and deliver me and the believers who are with me!”
Verse 119 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:119
So We delivered him and those who were with him in the full-laden Ark
Verse 120 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:120
Then afterwards We drowned those who remained
Verse 121 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:121
Truly in that is a sign, but most of them are not believers
Verse 122 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:122
And truly thy Lord is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful
Verse 123 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:123
Ad denied the messengers
Verse 124 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:124
when their brother Hud said unto them, “Will you not be reverent
Verse 125 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:125
Truly I am a trustworthy messenger unto you
Verse 126 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:126
So reverence God and obey me
Verse 127 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:127
And I ask not of you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of the worlds
Verse 128 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:128
Do you frivolously build on every high place a sign
Verse 129 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:129
And do you occupy castles, that haply you may ever abide
Verse 130 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:130
And when you strike, do you strike as tyrants
Verse 131 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:131
So reverence God and obey me
Verse 132 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:132
And reverence Him who has succored you with what you know
Verse 133 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:133
succored you with cattle and children
Verse 134 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:134
and gardens and springs
Verse 135 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:135
Truly I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous day!”
Verse 136 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:136
They said, “It is the same to us whether you exhort us or whether you are not among those who exhort
Verse 137 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:137
This is naught but the ethos of those of old
Verse 138 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:138
and we shall not be punished.”
Verse 139 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:139
So they denied him, and We destroyed them. Truly in that is a sign, but most of them are not believers
Verse 140 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:140
And truly thy Lord is, indeed, the Mighty, the Merciful
Verse 141 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:141
The Thamud denied the messengers
Verse 142 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:142
when their brother ?ali? said unto them, “Will you not be reverent
Verse 143 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:143
Truly I am a trustworthy messenger unto you
Verse 144 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:144
So reverence God and obey me
Verse 145 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:145
And I ask not of you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of the worlds
Verse 146 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:146
Will you be left among that which is here, secure
Verse 147 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:147
amid gardens and springs
Verse 148 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:148
sown fields, date palms with ripe stalks
Verse 149 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:149
And you skillfully hew dwellings in the mountains
Verse 150 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:150
So reverence God and obey me
Verse 151 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:151
And obey not the commands of the prodigal
Verse 152 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:152
who work corruption upon the earth, and do not set matters aright.”
Verse 153 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:153
They said, “You are but one of the bewitched
Verse 154 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:154
You are naught but a human being like us; so bring a sign, if you are among the truthful.”
Verse 155 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:155
He said, “This is a she-camel; she shall have drink and you shall drink on an appointed day
Verse 156 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:156
And touch her not with harm, lest you be taken by the punishment of a tremendous day.”
Verse 157 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:157
But they hamstrung her, and then became remorseful
Verse 158 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:158
So the punishment seized them. Truly in that is a sign, but most of them are not believers
Verse 159 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:159
And truly thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful
Verse 160 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:160
The people of Lot denied the messengers
Verse 161 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:161
when their brother Lot said unto them, “Will you not be reverent
Verse 162 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:162
Truly I am a trustworthy messenger unto you
Verse 163 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:163
so reverence God and obey me
Verse 164 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:164
And I ask not of you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of the worlds
Verse 165 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:165
Among all creatures do you come unto males
Verse 166 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:166
leaving your spouses your Lord created for you? Nay, but you are a transgressing people.”
Verse 167 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:167
They said, “If you cease not, O Lot, you will be among those who are expelled.”
Verse 168 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:168
He said, “Truly I am of those who detest what you do
Verse 169 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:169
My Lord! Deliver me and my family from what they do.”
Verse 170 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:170
So We delivered him and his family all together
Verse 171 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:171
save for an old woman among those who lagged behind
Verse 172 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:172
Then We destroyed the others
Verse 173 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:173
And We rained a rain upon them. Evil was the rain of the warned
Verse 174 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:174
Truly in that is a sign, but most of them are not believers
Verse 175 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:175
And truly thy Lord is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful
Verse 176 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:176
The inhabitants of the thicket denied the messengers
Verse 177 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:177
when Shu?ayb said unto them, “Will you not be reverent
Verse 178 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:178
Truly I am a trustworthy messenger unto you
Verse 179 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:179
So reverence God and obey me
Verse 180 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:180
And I ask not of you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of the worlds
Verse 181 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:181
Give full measure, and be not among those who fall short
Verse 182 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:182
Weigh with the right balance
Verse 183 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:183
and diminish not people’s goods, nor behave wickedly upon the earth, working corruption
Verse 184 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:184
And reverence Him Who created you and the generations of old.”
Verse 185 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:185
They said, “You are but one of the bewitched
Verse 186 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:186
You are naught but a human being like us, and indeed we deem you to be among the liars
Verse 187 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:187
so make fragments from the sky fall upon us, if you are among the truthful.”
Verse 188 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:188
He said, “My Lord knows best what you do.”
Verse 189 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:189
So they denied him, and the punishment of the day of gloom seized them. Truly it was the punishment of a tremendous day
Verse 190 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:190
Truly in that is a sign, but most of them are not believers
Verse 191 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:191
And truly thy Lord is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful
Verse 192 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:192
And truly it is a revelation of the Lord of the worlds
Verse 193 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:193
brought down by the Trustworthy Spirit
Verse 194 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:194
upon thine heart—that thou mayest be among the warners—
Verse 195 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:195
in a clear, Arabic tongue
Verse 196 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:196
It is indeed in the scriptures of those of old
Verse 197 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:197
Is it not a sign for them that the learned of the Children of Israel know it
Verse 198 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:198
And had We sent it down upon some non-Arab
Verse 199 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:199
and he recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it
Verse 200 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:200
Thus do We place it into the hearts of the guilty
Verse 201 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:201
they will not believe in it till they see the painful punishment
Verse 202 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:202
so it will come upon them suddenly, while they are unaware
Verse 203 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:203
Then they will say, “Will we be granted respite?”
Verse 204 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:204
Do they seek to hasten Our Punishment
Verse 205 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:205
Consider: if We grant them enjoyment for years
Verse 206 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:206
and there comes upon them that which they were promised
Verse 207 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:207
of what avail to them will be that which they were made to enjoy
Verse 208 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:208
And never did We destroy a town save that it had warners
Verse 209 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:209
as a reminder; and We did no wrong
Verse 210 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:210
And the satans did not descend with it
Verse 211 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:211
nor is it fitting for them, nor are they able
Verse 212 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:212
Indeed, they are debarred from hearing [it]
Verse 213 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:213
So call not upon another god along with God, lest thou be among the punished
Verse 214 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:214
And warn thy tribe, thy nearest kin
Verse 215 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:215
and lower thy wing to the believers who follow thee
Verse 216 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:216
And should they disobey thee, say, “Truly I am quit of that which you do.”
Verse 217 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:217
And trust in the Mighty, the Merciful
Verse 218 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:218
Who sees thee when thou standest [to pray]
Verse 219 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:219
and thy movement amid those who prostrate
Verse 220 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:220
Truly He is the Hearing, the Knowing
Verse 221 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:221
Shall I inform thee of those upon whom the satans descend
Verse 222 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:222
They descend upon every sinful liar
Verse 223 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:223
eavesdropping, and most of them are liars
Verse 224 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:224
And as for the poets, the errant follow them
Verse 225 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:225
Hast thou not considered that they wander in every valley
Verse 226 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:226
and that they say what they do not do
Verse 227 — Surah Ash-Shuara 26:227
Not so those who believe and perform righteous deeds, and remember God much, and help one another after having been wronged. And those who do wrong shall know to what homecoming they will return
