Translation by Mohammad Shafi — Permalink

Verse 1 — Surah An-Najm 53:1

By the star when it perishes

Verse 2 — Surah An-Najm 53:2

Neither is your comrade [Prophet Muhammad] astray, nor has he deviated

Verse 3 — Surah An-Najm 53:3

And he speaks not for attaining any personal desire

Verse 4 — Surah An-Najm 53:4

It is nothing but revelation divinely revealed

Verse 5 — Surah An-Najm 53:5

Imparted to him by One [Angel] mighty in power

Verse 6 — Surah An-Najm 53:6

[The Angel] capable of passing [quickly from one form to another]. And he rose

Verse 7 — Surah An-Najm 53:7

And he was on the high horizon

Verse 8 — Surah An-Najm 53:8

Then he drew near, and came down

Verse 9 — Surah An-Najm 53:9

To be within a distance of two bow-lengths

Verse 10 — Surah An-Najm 53:10

And He then revealed to His devotee [Muhammad] what He revealed

Verse 11 — Surah An-Najm 53:11

The mind lied not what it saw

Verse 12 — Surah An-Najm 53:12

Would you then be engaged in an argument with him over what he saw

Verse 13 — Surah An-Najm 53:13

And he [Muhammad] did see him [Angel] descend another time

Verse 14 — Surah An-Najm 53:14

Near Sidrat [a kind of tree] at the farthest frontier

Verse 15 — Surah An-Najm 53:15

Near it [Sidrat] is the Garden Abode [Paradise]

Verse 16 — Surah An-Najm 53:16

When what covers the Sidr covered it

Verse 17 — Surah An-Najm 53:17

The sight swerved not, nor did it transgress

Verse 18 — Surah An-Najm 53:18

He did see some of the great signs of his Lord

Verse 19 — Surah An-Najm 53:19

See you the Lat and the`Uzza

Verse 20 — Surah An-Najm 53:20

And Manat, the third, besides

Verse 21 — Surah An-Najm 53:21

Are the males for you and for Him the females

Verse 22 — Surah An-Najm 53:22

This then is an unfair division

Verse 23 — Surah An-Najm 53:23

They are but names you have given them — you and your fathers! Allah has sent no authority for them. They follow but conjecture and what they themselves desire. And, surely, the guidance from their Lord has come to them

Verse 24 — Surah An-Najm 53:24

Or, is it ordained that man does [always] have what he wishes

Verse 25 — Surah An-Najm 53:25

To Allah then belong the Hereafter and the present

Verse 26 — Surah An-Najm 53:26

And how many angels are there in the heavens whose intercession shall be of no avail, unless and until it be by Allah's permission and pleasure in regard to those whom He wishes

Verse 27 — Surah An-Najm 53:27

Those, indeed, who do not believe in the Hereafter give angels female names

Verse 28 — Surah An-Najm 53:28

And they have no knowledge thereon [on creation of angels]. They but follow their conjecture and conjecture can avail nothing indeed against the Truth

Verse 29 — Surah An-Najm 53:29

So keep away from those who turn away from remembering Us and who seek nothing but the life of this world

Verse 30 — Surah An-Najm 53:30

That [life of this world] is all they know! Indeed it is your Lord Who knows those who have strayed away from His Path and it is He Who knows those who are guided

Verse 31 — Surah An-Najm 53:31

And To Allah belong all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth to requite the evil- doers for their deeds and to requite those who have done good deeds with a good reward

Verse 32 — Surah An-Najm 53:32

Those who avoid grave sins and shameful deeds, lesser offences notwithstanding — for those indeed your Lord abounds in forgiveness. He knows you since He raised you from the earth, and while you were unseen inside your mothersԠwombs. Consider yourselves not then as pure and highly born! He knows those that are pious

Verse 33 — Surah An-Najm 53:33

Have you seen the person that turns away (from Allah's Path)

Verse 34 — Surah An-Najm 53:34

And he/she gives a little, and then stops

Verse 35 — Surah An-Najm 53:35

Does he have any knowledge of the Unseen, and is so aware of it

Verse 36 — Surah An-Najm 53:36

Is he not informed of what is there in the Scripture of Moses

Verse 37 — Surah An-Najm 53:37

And of Abraham, who was true to his word

Verse 38 — Surah An-Najm 53:38

That no bearer of a burden shall bear the burden of another

Verse 39 — Surah An-Najm 53:39

And that man gets nothing but what he strives for

Verse 40 — Surah An-Najm 53:40

And that his striving shall be [critically] seen

Verse 41 — Surah An-Najm 53:41

And then he shall be fully compensated

Verse 42 — Surah An-Najm 53:42

And that to your Lord is the End

Verse 43 — Surah An-Najm 53:43

And that He it is Who makes people laugh and cry

Verse 44 — Surah An-Najm 53:44

And that He it is Who causes death and gives life

Verse 45 — Surah An-Najm 53:45

And He it is Who created the couple of the male and the female

Verse 46 — Surah An-Najm 53:46

From fertilized ovum as and when [divinely] decreed.h

Verse 47 — Surah An-Najm 53:47

And that He has ordained tne second life [for mankind in the Hereafter] to be obligatory upon Himself

Verse 48 — Surah An-Najm 53:48

And that He is the One self-sufficient and self-preserving

Verse 49 — Surah An-Najm 53:49

And that He is the Lord of Siriush

Verse 50 — Surah An-Najm 53:50

And that He it is Who destroyed the ancient people of AAad

Verse 51 — Surah An-Najm 53:51

And Thamood [another ancient people], leaving no trace of them

Verse 52 — Surah An-Najm 53:52

And He destroyed the overturned cities [of the people of Lot]

Verse 54 — Surah An-Najm 53:54

Verse 55 — Surah An-Najm 53:55

So, which of your Lordճ means of power will you doubt

Verse 56 — Surah An-Najm 53:56

It is a warning among the warnings of yore

Verse 57 — Surah An-Najm 53:57

The approaching [Hour] has drawn near

Verse 58 — Surah An-Najm 53:58

None other than Allah can avert it

Verse 59 — Surah An-Najm 53:59

Do you, then, wonder at what has been told to you here

Verse 60 — Surah An-Najm 53:60

Will you laugh at it and not weep

Verse 61 — Surah An-Najm 53:61

And you remain heedlessly engrossed in merriment

Verse 62 — Surah An-Najm 53:62

You should [rather] prostrate to Allah, and worship Him
