English - Chapter 56
Translation by Rowwad Translation Center
Verse 1
When the Inevitable Event comes to pass
Verse 2
there will be none to deny its occurrence
Verse 3
it will bring some low and raise others up
Verse 4
When the earth will be shaken violently
Verse 5
and the mountains crushed to pieces
Verse 6
and turn to scattered dust
Verse 7
then you are sorted into three groups
Verse 8
the people of the right – how blessed will be the people of the right
Verse 9
The people of the left – how miserable will be the people of the left
Verse 10
And the forerunners [in faith] are the forerunners [in Paradise]
Verse 11
They are the nearest ones [to Allah]
Verse 12
in Gardens of Bliss
Verse 13
many from the early generations
Verse 14
and a few from the later generations
Verse 15
[They will be seated] on jeweled couches
Verse 16
reclining on them, facing one another
Verse 17
They will be served by immortal youths
Verse 18
with cups, pitchers, and glasses [of wine] from a flowing spring
Verse 19
which will neither cause any headache nor intoxication
Verse 20
along with fruits of their choice
Verse 21
and flesh of birds that they may desire
Verse 22
And [they will have] maidens of wide gorgeous eyes
Verse 23
like pristine pearls
Verse 24
as a reward for what they used to do
Verse 25
They will not hear therein any idle talk or sinful speech
Verse 26
except the words of peace, peace
Verse 27
The people of the right – how blessed will be the people of the right
Verse 28
[They will be] amid thornless lote trees
Verse 29
and clusters of bananas
Verse 30
and shade long-extended
Verse 31
and flowing water
Verse 32
and abundant fruit –
Verse 33
neither ceasing nor restricted –
Verse 34
and mattresses raised high [on beds]
Verse 35
Indeed, We have perfectly created them [their spouses]
Verse 36
and have made them virgins
Verse 37
loving and of equal age
Verse 38
for the people of the right
Verse 39
many from the earlier generations
Verse 40
and many from the later generations
Verse 41
And the people of the left – how wretched will be the people of the left
Verse 42
[They will be] in scorching wind and scalding water
Verse 43
in the shade of black smoke
Verse 44
neither cool nor refreshing
Verse 45
Indeed, they used to be in luxuries before
Verse 46
and persisted in the gravest sin [of polytheism]
Verse 47
They used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, will we really be raised again
Verse 48
And our forefathers as well?”
Verse 49
Say, [O Prophet], “Indeed, the former and later generations
Verse 50
will be gathered on a predetermined Day
Verse 51
Then you, O misguided deniers
Verse 52
will surely eat from the tree of zaqqūm
Verse 53
filling your bellies with it
Verse 54
and drinking scalding water on top of it
Verse 55
drinking like thirsty camels do.”
Verse 56
This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment
Verse 57
It is We Who created you; will you not then believe [in resurrection]
Verse 58
Have you thought about the semen that you emit
Verse 59
Is it you who create it, or is it We Who are the Creators
Verse 60
We have ordained death among you, and nothing can overcome us
Verse 61
from transforming you and recreating you in forms that you do not know
Verse 62
You are well aware of the first creation; why do you not then take heed
Verse 63
Have you thought about what you sow
Verse 64
Is it you who cause it grow, or is it We Who make it grow
Verse 65
If We willed, We could reduce your harvest to crumble, leaving you to wonder and lament
Verse 66
“We suffered loss
Verse 67
rather, we are deprived.”
Verse 68
Have you thought about the water that you drink
Verse 69
Is it you who bring it down from the clouds, or is it We Who bring it down
Verse 70
If We willed, We could make it salty; will you not then give thanks
Verse 71
Have you thought about the fire that you kindle
Verse 72
Is it you who produced its trees, or is it We Who produced it
Verse 73
We made it a reminder [of the Hellfire] and a benefit for the travelers
Verse 74
So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most Great
Verse 75
I do swear by the positions of the stars –
Verse 76
and this is indeed a great oath, if only you knew –
Verse 77
that this is indeed a noble Qur’an
Verse 78
in a well-preserved Record
Verse 79
that none can touch except the purified [angels] –
Verse 80
a revelation from the Lord of the worlds
Verse 81
Do you take this discourse lightly
Verse 82
and instead [of thanking Allah] for the provision you are given, you show ingratitude
Verse 83
Then why [you are helpless] when the soul reaches the throat
Verse 84
while you are looking on
Verse 85
when We are closer to him than you, but you do not see
Verse 86
If you are not subject to retribution, then why do you not
Verse 87
bring that [soul] back, if you are truthful
Verse 88
If that dying person is one of those who will be brought near to Allah
Verse 89
then [he will have] comfort, fragrance, and Garden of Bliss
Verse 90
If he is one of the people of the right
Verse 91
[He will be told], “Peace be to you, for being one of the people of the right.”
Verse 92
But if he is one of the misguided deniers
Verse 93
then he will be welcomed with scalding water
Verse 94
and he will burn in Blazing Fire
Verse 95
This is indeed the absolute truth
Verse 96
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Most Great
