English - Chapter 27
Translation by Safi Kaskas
Verse 1
Ta, Seen. These are the verses of the Qur'an, a book that makes everything clear
Verse 2
a guidance and good news for the believers
Verse 3
who perform prayer and give the purifying alms, and are certain of the Hereafter
Verse 4
As for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have made their deeds seem right in their own eyes, so they will wander blindly
Verse 5
It is they who will receive the worst punishment, and, in the Hereafter, they are the most failing
Verse 6
You have received the Qur'an from the Grace of the All-Wise and All-Knowing
Verse 7
[Mention] when Moses said to his family, "I think I see a fire. I will bring you information or will bring you a burning torch that you may warm yourselves
Verse 8
But when he reached it, a voice called to him: "Blessed is He who is in the fire and whoever is around it. And may God be exalted in His Glory, the Lord of the Worlds
Verse 9
Moses, It is I-God, the Almighty, the Wise
Verse 10
Throw down your staff." But when he saw it moving as if it were a snake, he ran away and did not turn. [God said], "Moses, do not be afraid. In My presence the Messengers do not have anything to fear
Verse 11
I am Forgiving and Merciful to him who does wrong but [who then] replaces his bad deeds with good ones
Verse 12
And put your hand in your garment; it will come out white yet unharmed-one of nine signs [you will take] to Pharaoh and his people. They have been disobedient people
Verse 13
But when Our enlightening signs came to them, they said, "This is clearly magic
Verse 14
Even though they were convinced, they rejected them out of spite and pride. So consider what happen to those who spread corruption
Verse 15
We gave knowledge to David and Solomon, and they said, "Praise God, who has favored us over many of His believing servants
Verse 16
And Solomon was David's heir. He said, "People, we have been taught the language of birds, and we have been given a share of everything. This is clearly a blessing
Verse 17
Then one day, Solomon's troops of jinn and men and birds were assembled before him, and they were [marching] in rows
Verse 18
When they came upon the valley of the ants, one of the ants said, "Ants enter your dwellings so that you will not be crushed by Solomon and his soldiers without their knowing it
Verse 19
Solomon smiled, amused at what she said, and said, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for the blessings You have given me and my parents, and that I may do righteous deeds accepted by You. And admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous worshipers
Verse 20
[One day] he inspected the birds and said, "Why do I not see the hoopoe, or is he absent without permission
Verse 21
I will surely punish him severely or kill him unless he brings me a convincing excuse
Verse 22
But the hoopoe did not stay away for long. It said, "I learned something that you do not know, and I have brought you news from Sheba
Verse 23
I found a woman ruling them. She has been given [an abundance] of all things, and she has a magnificent throne
Verse 24
I found that she and her people bow to the sun instead of God. Satan has made their deeds seem right to them and has turned them away from the right path, so they cannot find their way
Verse 25
Should they not bow to God, who brings forth what is hidden within the heavens and the earth, and who knows what you conceal and what you declare
Verse 26
He is God-there is no god except Him, Lord of the awesome Throne
Verse 27
[Solomon] said, "We will see whether you told the truth or were a liar
Verse 28
Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them. Then withdraw but see what response they will have
Verse 29
The Queen said, "Counselors, a gracious letter has been delivered to me
Verse 30
It is from Solomon, and it is, 'In the name of God, the Merciful-to-all, the Mercy Giver
Verse 31
Do not allow yourself to think that you are above me, come to me in submission
Verse 32
She said, "Council, advise me on the matter before me. I will not decide on a matter unless I hear from you
Verse 33
They said, "We are powerful and have great military might, but the decision is yours, and we stand ready to follow your orders
Verse 34
She said, "When kings enter a town, they ruin it and humiliate its proudest inhabitants. This is what they do
Verse 35
I am sending them a gift, and I will see what the messengers bring back
Verse 36
So when her messengers gained an audience with Solomon [and presented the gift], Solomon said, "Do you bring me wealth, when what God has given me is better than what He has given you? It is people like you who will rejoice in a gift like this
Verse 37
Go back [and tell] them, that we will come to them with soldiers whom they will be unable to face, and We will expel them from their land in humiliation, and disgrace
Verse 38
Then he said, "Council, which of you will bring me her magnificent throne before they come to me in submission
Verse 39
A daring one from among the jinn said, "I will bring it to you before you rise from your council. I am strong enough to do it and can be trusted
Verse 40
But one who had knowledge from the Book said, "I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you." And when [Solomon] saw it placed before him, he said, "This is a favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or not. And whoever is grateful, it is for his own good. As for the ungrateful, then my Lord is rich beyond need and generous
Verse 41
Then he said, "Disguise her throne; We will see whether she will allow herself to be guided [to truth] or will be among those who reject guidance
Verse 42
So when she arrived, she was asked, "Is your throne like this?" She said, "It is as if it were the same." [Solomon thought], "We were given knowledge before her, and we have been submissive to God
Verse 43
While what she worshiped beside God prevented her from believing, as she is from a people who deny the truth
Verse 44
She was told, "Enter the courtyard." But when she saw it, she thought it was a pool and uncovered her legs. He said, "It is a courtyard paved with smooth glass." She said, "My Lord, I have been wrong [because of my limited knowledge], and I submit with Solomon to God, Lord of the Worlds
Verse 45
And We sent to Thamud their brother Salih, [saying], "Worship God," but they were split into rival factions
Verse 46
He said, "My people, why are you so anxious to rush towards evil instead of to good? Why you do not ask God for forgiveness, so that maybe you will receive mercy
Verse 47
They said, "We consider you to be a bad omen, you and those with you." He said, "Your omen is with God. Rather, it is you who are being tested
Verse 48
And in the town there were heads of nine clans who spread mischief in the land and did no good
Verse 49
They said to each other, "Let's take an oath by God that we will kill him and his family tonight. Then we will say to his protector, 'we did not witness the destruction of his family, and we are truthful
Verse 50
So they devised their plan, and We too had a plan, but they were not aware of what We were planning
Verse 51
Look, then, at the outcome of their plan: We destroyed them and all their people
Verse 52
Here are their houses, desolate because they were unjust. There is a sign in that for people who know
Verse 53
And We saved those who believed and were mindful of God
Verse 54
And Lot, when he said to his people, "How can you commit this indecent act with your eyes wide open
Verse 55
You lust after men instead of women? You are ignorant people
Verse 56
But his people's answer was "Expel Lot and his family from your town. They are people who keep themselves pure
Verse 57
So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; We determined she would be with those who stayed behind
Verse 58
And We rained upon them a rain. Horrible was the rain for those who were forewarned
Verse 59
Say, "Praise be to God, and peace be on His worshipers whom He has chosen. Is not God better than those they associate with Him
Verse 60
Is He [not best] who created the heavens and the earth? Who sent down rain from the sky for you, causing gardens full of beauty to grow; you could not have grown the trees on your own. Is there another god alongside God? [No], but there are people who take others to be equal to Him
Verse 61
Is He [not best] who made the earth a stable ground, and placed rivers within it, and set mountains firmly on it, and placed a barrier between the two seas? Is there a god with God? [No], but most of them do not know
Verse 62
Is He [not best] Who responds to the desperate when he calls upon Him, and Who removes his distress and makes you successors on earth? Is there a god with God? Little do you remember
Verse 63
Is He [not best] Who guides you through the darkness of land and sea and who sends the winds, bringing advance news of His mercy? Is there a god with God? Exalted is God above whatever they associate with Him
Verse 64
Is He [not best] Who begins creation and then repeats it, and Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Is there a god with God? Say, "Show me your evidence, if you are truthful
Verse 65
Say, "None in the heavens and earth knows what lies beyond our senses except God, and they do not know when they will be resurrected
Verse 66
Rather, their knowledge cannot comprehend the Hereafter. They are in doubt about it; they are in fact blind to it
Verse 67
So the unbelievers say, "When we and our fathers become dust, will we then be brought out of the graves
Verse 68
We and our forefathers have been promised this before. This is only a legend of an ancient people
Verse 69
Say, "Travel around the earth and observe the fate of those who are guilty of forcing others to reject God's messages
Verse 70
[Prophet,] do not grieve over them or be distressed by what they conspire
Verse 71
They say, "When is [the fulfillment of] this promise, if you are truthful
Verse 72
Say, "Perhaps some of what you seem eager for is closer than you think
Verse 73
Verily your Lord is bountiful to people, but most of them do not show gratitude
Verse 74
Certainly your Lord knows what their hearts conceal and what they declare
Verse 75
for there is nothing [so] hidden in heaven and earth that it is not in a clear record
Verse 76
This Revelation [The Qur'an] explains to the Children of Israel most of what they differ about
Verse 77
And It is guidance and mercy for the Believers
Verse 78
Your Lord will judge between them by His [wise] judgment, for He is the Almighty, the All-Knowing
Verse 79
So put your trust in God; you are on the path of clear Truth
Verse 80
You will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf listen to the call when they have turned their backs and gone away
Verse 81
and you cannot guide the blind away from their error. You cannot make anyone hear you except those who believe in Our signs and submit to [Us]
Verse 82
And when the judgment comes against them, We will bring forth a beast from the earth to tell them that, truly people had no true faith in Our signs
Verse 83
And [warn of] the Day when We will gather from every nation a crowd of those who deny Our messages, and they will be formed into groups
Verse 84
until, when they arrive [at the place of Judgment], He will say, "Did you deny My messages without even trying to understand them? What were you doing
Verse 85
The verdict will be handed down for their wrongdoing, and they will not speak
Verse 86
Do they not see that We made the night for them to rest and the day to see? There are signs in that for people who believe
Verse 87
And [warn of] the Day on which the Horn will be blown, and everyone in the heavens and on earth will be terrified except whom God wills, and all will come to Him completely humbled
Verse 88
And you will see the mountains, thinking they are solid, going by like clouds. [It is] the work of God, who perfected all things; He is well aware of all you do
Verse 89
Whoever comes [at Judgment] with a good deed will be rewarded with something better, and they will be safe from the terror of that Day
Verse 90
And whoever comes with an evil deed, they will be cast face down into the Fire, [and will be asked] "Are you being repaid for anything except what you have done
Verse 91
[Say], "I have simply been ordered to worship the Lord of this town, Who made it sacred and to Whom all things belong. And I have been ordered to be one of those who submit to God
Verse 92
and recite the Qur'an." Whoever is guided is guided only for his own good, and to whoever strays, say, "I am only one who gives warning
Verse 93
And say, "All praise is due to God. [In time] He will show you His signs, and you will recognize them. Your Lord is never unaware of what you do
